I know that this has been answered before but I can't find the thread.

What does the 'A' at the end of a part number mean?

Means that part number has had a revision done to it. Usable for the original application.
So, if the 2011 P&A catalog calls for the part with the 'A' at the end of it...and I find the part on EBAY without the 'A'...I should still be okay...right?

The part without the "A" won't have the current revision, or improvement, "intended" to correct a possible problem or unwanted effect.
(Not to say that HD's revisions always help! (ie: fuel gage sending units!)
