Flash forward to “riding” a motorcycle means your autonomous driving bike with a go pro...
Technology can save you from yourself ! ?

Funny Stuff. So their programmed M/C control B/S can save you from yourself, because you are an idiot ! Hey, HOW ABOUT LEARNING HOW TO RIDE ????? Ever see the video of the Airbus jet at the airshow fly into the trees and crash because the fly by wire computer programmer never put an algorithm into the system for a gear down, flaps down, power up go around ? When you hand your safety off to a computer programmer geek you may find just a few glitches. And end up DEAD. Nothing wrong with lean sensitive ABS, Traction Control, Anti -wheelie assist etc. but you should know how to ride FIRST. Technology - It's not a replacement for knowing how to ride, it's an assistant. If you don't want to learn HOW to ride properly FIRST do us all a favor - BUY A FRIGGING CAR ! Or better yet just take an UBER or LYFT and " Leave the Riding to US" ! IDIOTS. Yes, that's how I really feel. :blahblah: :D
 Where's the fun it that? Your bike doesn't need you anymore to go for a ride?
I can see plenty of uses for this sort of technology. That it's been applied to a motorcycle is not a surprise and shows what an inventive lot we are.Typical reaction is to assume it's going to impinge on one's personal life without being invited, how shortsighted.
As a species we have the ability to create or destroy and have opted to create with a financial based reward sytem to keep the whole deal together. To automatically reject every new project is an admission you would rather not be involved and have a better plan so lets hear it.
Search and rescue, fire, police, anti terrorism, dangerous goods, pizza delivery in pirate neighbourhoods all come to mind.Ever had an animal jump out in the dark you couldn't see, ever high sided lost control and ended up face planting the tank with your hands touching the foot pegs, ever had a tyre blowout, ever got hammered and needed a bike nanny to get you home etc etc.
I thought V Rod guys were a progressive bunch with a bit of reject the norm in them, seems not lately!:stilpoke:

Head First Into The Future !? ( Best of Luck ! )

Progressive bunch ? So progress now leads us to a point where now we no longer ride our motorcycle to enjoy controlling a wild mechanical breathing snorting animal with our cunning and skills, now it's now more of a pre programmed carnival ride that resembles a motorcycle that we climb on, tune out, get on facebook and take some selfies " riding " and let the ride control us, until it rear ends a truck because the auto braking decided to take that full stop off. WOW ! That kinda sucks, sounds as good as a soup sandwich! And without a doubt it will be battery powered. You got it Tassie, the all new "Bike Nanny" including optional auto deploy electric kick stand. Why ride yourself when she will do your riding for you ? Wonder if she's smart enough to ride into the median when you are about to hit an oncoming car passing someone else HEAD ON ? Maybe, maybe not. Probably not until the next reboot update. Free Caskets during development ! I've had all the things you mention and much more happen to me riding and racing motorcycles and I handled them all myself, like many guys here - no electronic nanny required.
Tassie I think you are conflating progress in M/C safety technology without realizing at some point you are giving up all control. If it was a great idea believe me the airlines would have NO PILOTS. They are very expensive and believe me aircraft virtually fly themselves now but aircraft still need the ability of humans to make critical multi-level decisions to fly safely and every once in a while save everyone on board. I think you should be the first Nanny Bike " Rider " (Passenger) for long term testing. Best of luck ! :blahblah: :D

:banghead:Next you'll be telling me Neil Armstrong had a steering wheel.

Simple on off switch for electronic aids if you want to relive the horse and buggy days.Bikes of today can easy top 100-150mph yet speed limits are half that (autobahn excluded) lets get these things wound up I say. If a switch has to be thrown to effectively halve the commute times I'm all for it.You can stay in the slow lane with the pirate crowd if you like:moped: I'm a speed freak:ride:.
Back to the Future !?

Tassie if nothing else you are a source of continual entertainment. Yes, Neil Armstrong had a "steering wheel " through control of thrust and side thrusters and if he hadn't kept control of the LM beast they would still be dead on the moon.
I agree a switch to shut off the electronic aids is a great idea. The problem is human nature is such that if they think the machine has total control they will do something else - faceplant, er - facebook, texting, maybe a short commuting nap ? So if humans are not paying attention they do not see the danger that would require them to shut off the electronic aids, regain manual control and avoid an accident. Or they think the electronic aids are engaged, don't monitor their response and by the time they react it's too late to avoid an accident ( see San Fran. Asiana Airlines auto throttles in hold mode crash )
If you think you will go faster and 1/2 your commute times you are sadly mistaken, again. Any system like that would require ALL commuting traffic to be interlinked electronically to provide spacing, accel and decel for on and off ramps and to blend individual vehicles. Good luck waiting for that to happen, if it does it will be a government supplies vehicle. Mass transportation. Speed Freaks want individual freedom, and they go faster than surrounding traffic not linked up with others and to a government decided proper commute speed. See current motorcycles lane splitting and hauling A$$, with no fancy electronic aids required. Amazing. :blahblah: :D

I just wish someone would put that kind of effort into automatic wife control and leave the riding to me.

Pretty much most new vehicles already have a crude version as standard now with the crash avoidance, lane assist, auto park, gps features just needs better integration and some road rule incentives and its away.

They have;)...…………...https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=can+am+ryker&&view=detail&mid=52084F837086A5295B5B52084F837086A5295B5B&&FORM=VRDGAR guaranteed to lighten your bike by 70kg's:hidesbeh:
The Future Looks so Bright You Will Need Shades ! NOT.

I believe the majority of drivers ( and even some riders ) are absolutely totally distracted today and really should have their drivers licences suspended for the stupid, dangerous and expensive accidents they are causing. Insurance rates are jumping up at alarming rates. Just saw an accident today going to work where a guy in an old Crown Vic veered left into the right side of a new F150 leaving a light because - Wait for it - he was staring down at his phone, thinking he was going straight ! It's probably time for mass transportation where these self absorbed idiots have no say in the operation of the vehicle because they are totally IRRESPONSIBLE !! In that regard, I agree with you Tassie - couple all the cars up electronically, & let them follow each other around with no drivers, just head down passengers, Disneyland ride style. Hell just eliminate private cars entirely just have high speed and light rail connected to your final destination with professional licensed Lyft or Uber drivers in actual cars.
The way I look at it not everyone can be, is or should be a motorcycle rider. It's NOT a spectator sport. If the bikes totally automatic and it rides YOU around you have entered into the world of the new "self resolving" Rubiks Cube, no intervention or brain power needed for resolving the puzzle - it does it itself, you just watch it do it. Yea, it's for sale. This is where the machines become smarter than us, computer dweebs really like it and we devolve into programmers of machines that eventually outsmart us. HEY - Wasn't there a book and a movie like this ? :blahblah: :D

Uber cool aussie solution here, the flying bus, rear door cargo ramp (not shown) tired pirates can text a mobile pickup from fast lane when pushrods bend from over exertion and have a nanna nap whilst HD tech rebuilds sled.Rolling burnout re entry arrive refreshed at destination.
