Oil pump area metallic noise

2003 VRSCA with 26k miles making noise as verified with stethoscope from in front of clutch basket area. Clears up mostly when hot. In process of pulling oil pump apart, BUT how can a oil bathed part sound metallic? MAYbe transmission input shaft bearing going bad? Drained oil looks fine but has 12 miles on it, always ran 20w50 synthetic changed 3k to 3500 miles. THANKS

at that mileage,either nothing or cracked header or water pump or clutch basket springs .check balancer and clutch gearing and backlash for damage.
