I apologize for being sacrilegious, but I have a question about a fatboy. I went for a ride tonight with a buddy that was riding an 09 fatboy lo and I'm pretty sure his clutch went out. We were getting on it pretty good (him trying to keep up with my DX haha), then at the next light his bike started making a terrible grinding noise on take off and did so through all gears with any bit of acceleration. The bike was still rideable if kept under 1500rpm, but would buck and grind if given any pressure, but would idle fine in neutral or with the clutch in. Any thoughts to help my airhead buddy out?

Sounds like either clutch or trans. Has he checked the oil in the trans lately? Not positive, but I believe the softail is the same layout as the touring bikes, with separate engine, trans, and primary oil tanks...

Likely not, say, a primary chain tensioner, because a failure there I'd expect to make some amount of noise even at idle. Tho I could easily be wrong...
