S/E PA: Lansdale’s Bike Night (coming up on Saturday, September 8th) is the largest one-night bike event on the east coast, drawing upwards of 60,000 people. The entire center of this good-sized town is closed off to 4-wheeled traffic, and is filled with thousands of bikes, vendors, bands, etc. The bike show is at the heart of it all. Unfortunately, the date conflicts with the annual Wildwood (NJ) Bike Week each year, otherwise the show would be even larger than it is.
I called the organizers to bitch about the fact that among the 33 bike classes in the show, there was still no category for the V-Rod, and that they should “get with the times, already”. They were actually embarrassed, and admitted that they had never even given it a thought. They simply re-use the “established” category list that has been adopted by all the major shows in the region, and never even realized that the V-Rod wasn’t being accommodated. A couple of hours later, they called me back. The guy I spoke with had done a bit of research (I turned him on to the forum) and was amazed at what gorgeous bikes these V-Rods are… So it’s all changing now!
This will be the first year for the “All VRSC/V-Rod” category, and the registration form (available online) will be updated in a day or two. Hopefully, some of the other big bike shows in the region will notice and adopt V-Rod categories in their own shows. Being only two weeks away we have to settle for the single category, but by next year there should be stock/mild custom/full custom categories as well. Unfortunately, I can’t register my bike for the show now, as I agreed to be a judge for the new class!
If you’re within driving distance (25 miles north of Phila.), this is a show you don’t want to miss. It’s an outstanding event already, and will be even better if we can see a good showing of V-Rods!
So just maybe we should quit complaining among ourselves about how we’re so unappreciated and overlooked, and instead make some noise about it directly to those who we accuse? Maybe we can finally get some of the recognition we deserve at more venues like this one.
