New to V-Rod

Hello everyone!

I am in the process of purchasing a 2013 V-Rod Muscle. I am a former “crotch rocket” rider and have been off of those for about 5 yrs. Basically, the bike I’m getting has a Comp series 2 into 1 V&H pipe and DynaJet LCD controller. I would like to know some “ins and outs” of what to do or expect from the V-Rod experience! Any do’s and donts or what things I should purchase would be helpful!

Thanks!!

Hey congrats on the new bike.
15 years of sportbike riding myself before getting my 2006 Night Rod about 6 months ago. First thing I did was swap out to mid controls. I absolutely could not do forward controls after all those years on "crotch rockets." That being said, I'm 5'8" and 150 lbs. With how low the seat is, mids on a VRod will be quite a bit more cramped than on your typical sportbike, but I'm okay with it. The 1130cc Revolution motor is amazing, and even after being on everything from Gixxers to CBR's and Aprilia's and Buell's--the VRod is my all time favorite bike.
I've just got a Power Commander, K&N, and VMod stock pipes and she rocks.
Have fun!

If you didn't have aftermarket pipes and a tuner, that's what I would suggest - but you've got those bases covered.

Many of us V-Rodders come from a sport bike background, as do I, and try out the forward controls before you swap them out.

I ain't as young as I used to be, and the reason I finally switched from sport bikes is because I just couldn't hold "the superman pose" for more than an hour any more without more muscle soreness than I wanted...

Not that I'm "embracing" being an old man, but it's pretty comfy with the soles of my boots in the breeze! :)

The only time I have a problem with fwd controls is at high speed on the highway. I shift to the rear pegs at highway speed.
NEVER ROLL THE BACKWARDS IN GEAR or turn the engine backwards.
The cam chain will jump a few teeth.
A few people like to use the clutch in gear with engine off, to slow the bike when unloading it out of a pickup or trailer. Thats a no no with this engine
Hi - I have an 06 D also.
I plan to do the V-MOD 1 (Inner Baffles Removed)|
I have a K&N AF - may go topless.
Power Commander III.

Do you have a map you want to share?

Stock MAP for it Listed as 809-001

809-020 Main St Motorcycles Modified Stock Mufflers,
I read Is a good match for For Stock ECM, V-MOD 1 K&N AF, Topless,

Thx!

Before you do anything, I would get some miles on it. Vrods are a unique animal and most Harley guys that haven't ridden them have formed all sorts of opinions based upon misinformation. The people on this forum probably have some really good insight as they have the real experience. Give it some time, make it yours, enjoy and Ride Safe!

The Vrod King only speaks the Truth!!!
get battery tender and leave it hooked up when not riding.
I haven’t heard the best about the headlight. Any suggestions for a brighter one? Maybe small driving lights??

Remember the following....

1. Respect the speed, it will try to suck you in.
2. Don't ride "Lolo" (crazy)
3. Don't ride with "Lolos" (crazy people)
4. Don't ride in the rain, wait 5 minutes. It's going to stop.

I picked up a used Harley Daymaker on Facebook Marketplace for a couple hundred bucks. Worth. Every. Penny.

Picked up the bike today!! In love already!!

I do however have a question, I was under the impression that the HD security was “standard” on the 2013 VRod Muscle. It does not have key fobs and will start without one.

What are my options on getting either a factory or aftermarket alarm so that I don’t have to actually use the key that came with the bike???

Thanks!!

You can get the factory alarm part number 91684-08A for $339 and you can install it yourself under the passenger seat or dealer will do it in less than one hour.
