Problem: I want to replace the slug of a compensating sprocket on a Harley VROD. It looks like it was done with pressed metal, but it is tough to machine, so it might be a casting. To reproduce in billet aluminum is too expensive because you cut away so much. Someone made them in carbon fiber years ago, but they are out of business. Have prices on that stuff come down ? I also considered 3D printing, anybody know enough about it to give input ? What about high strength plastic, either molded or as a material for CNC ? Would it be less expensive as a seven piece aluminum assembly ? , Any other options ? Thx
