I believe the chrome guards are thicker than the guards you remove. I forget which one, but one of the guards was attached at one point by sliding it into a rubber washer. The rubber washer with the stock guard is not wide enough to slide the chrome guard in. The kit should come with a replacement washer that is the right thickness, so you might need to find a new one if your kit didn't come with one.

Well, unfortunately I must have thrown my instruction sheets away. But it is the upper belt guard that has to slide into the rubber peice. If I remember correctly I don't think it would be easy to get the new chrome guard into the stock rubber washer, but if you could slide it in I'm sure it would hold fine.

Okay, I found my instructions. For me, the only difference for the upper belt guard is that it didn't have a nut as part of the belt guard, so it came with a locknut to use. The locknut is Part Number 7433M.

For the bottem debris deflector, you have to replace the front mount deflector (rubber grommet). The one for the plastic guard is a different thickness than the one for the chrome guard. The new rubber grommet is Part Number 67633-01.

You could probably make this work with stuff from your local hardware store, but those are the Harley Part Numbers from the instruction sheets.

I just tightened them snug, but from the instructions the lower debris deflector's screws should be tightened to 6-10 Nm (4.4-7.4 ft-lbs). For the upper belt guard you need to losten the shock bolt to get it on, and that should be tightened to 41-68 Nm (35.4-50.2 ft-lbs).

I hope that helps.
