Need Advice 58mm Throttle Body

1951 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  RONVROD
I just had my 58mm throttle bodies repaired. I lost my second shaft on to my third shaft from Holy Moto. My questions are the following. When I got the throttle body back the butterflies didn’t open exactly the same, nor did they open totally vertical. Should I adjust them to open the same and do they need to open straight up and down when wide open? I can see where I adjust the rear to match the front butterfly but if needed where do I adjust the front to be vertical? I’m getting a misfire and wondered if this had anything to do with it. The service manual is very vague. The last time I had my throttle body rebuilt. I got back my original and it was install and go. Unfortunately I purchased a new throttle body to have this done originally and was supplied an older unit. Any advice would be helpful and appreciated.
Thanks!

Just a note. My bike does not miss terribly, I’m guessing it could be a fouled plug. Had to limp my bike home on the bad front throttle body shaft and it was not very responsive to throttle load. I had a 20 mile ride home.
I am far from an expert on this but just having set up my TBs and my bike is running great! I'll throw in my 2 cents...Yes they have to be synchronized to open at the same time. Once synced at close the full open is adjusted by the procedure in the manual via the cable adjustment.
Thanks for the advice. I have several variables I need to check. Thanks again!

What camshafts are you running?

Ron
I'm asking the same question as Ron...I just had SEII cams installed along with my rebuild and I bought the new 58mm TB from boardtrackerharleyonline.com Is there something I need to do before installing it to keep the broken shaft from happening? I've read about this on the forum but for the many people who went with the Destroyer TB, only a few complained about this butterfly shaft problem...what an I getting into here?
i consider it a must do,to install full throttle shafts with se2 cams.oems will eventually fail .
Creation of you are watching this thread I sent you an email. Thanks, Sean
Green Loctite

Hey guys,

It was stated that the screws holding the butterflies to the shafts should be held with green loctite. I'm finding more than two green loctite part numbers, which is right?

290 medium wicking or 498 high strength?

Thanks! Should be receiving my new shafts from Holy-Moto on Monday.

There are two green thread locking compounds (290 and 294) but I did't find 498 in the .pdf They make another green formula, #690 but it is for locking cylindrical parts such as bushings and bearing.
