I saw in some posts that people have tried different variations in modifying the upper plastic cover (ie: the swiss cheese effect, John's Ram Air mod, etc.). I don't want to run completely topless, but I do want to modify the box for more air flow. Since some time has passed since those original posts, can anybody give me some feedback on which is the best method now that you have ridden with it for a while. Also, if all I do is modify the cover, and install and SE filter, does the bike have to be re-mapped?....thanks, John.

I think that either John's ram air or simply taking the top off accomplish the same thing. The swiss cheese mod will let the air flow but I suspect it would be equivalent to no top or both performance and noise.

If you change the intake you'll need to modify the EFI. Since there aren't any maps for this combination you will need to use either the Race Tuner, PCIIIr or the Techlusion box and some dyno time. Don't expect much improvement in performance.

For the same money you could use either SE pipe and the correct flash and get some real performance improvement. If you don't mind loud then an even less expensive route is V-Mods, A/F and the SE flash, add the 28T pulley and run the '04 SE map Topless. That should get you to 110 HP and 79 - 80 Torque without any dyno time.

I like John's (Ketsugo) approach. Will this provide the same benefit, however small, as topless? Had to edit. I mean, since you guys have dynoed your bikes, Is there a measurable difference?

I have test it all ,top on ,top off ,snout cut, swish cheezed top,ect ect.You shoud see what I run Now!It blows them all away!!!!!!!:icon_twis

My Bike is still in at the dealership waiting to be fixed.Once I get it back I will take a few pics for all to see!:cool:

4-10th's of that was the track you were at!Pamona is one of the Fastest Tracks in the country.Out here in Vegas you'd be Lucky to run a 11.80!:fahr38

The Boy's here are going 4/10's Faster in Pomona with their cars and Bikes compaired to the same tune in Vegas.Tripp Nobles went 3/10's slower in Vegas on a Low 9 second Bike so and 11 second bike 4/10's is not unheard of!Your Track is Way Faster then Mine!:mad:

I agree with John, I cut the snout at an angle and sliced open the top and made it sort of a long scoop up under the air cover. I do not have the sound ,but, I am sure it breathes better. I also have a quicker reaction to stabbing the throttle at say 60 mph. No hesitation anymore(I did have a slight hesitation when passing). Whatever I did I am satisfied.
But unless there was a fan blowing real,real hard there can be no real judgement except a strip run each way one after the other.It is a mod that can be rectified by spending 25 bucks and replacing it if you are not satisfied. You can't do that with a 500 buck exhaust !
