Me to Frank

I just got back from the hospital after center punching a big dog at 55 to 60 mph. Got off work and it was so nice I thought I would ride my bike to school tonight. Drove the truck home and cleaned up, threw the books in the backpack and headed to town. All went well till I got out of town (after school) where the speed kicked back up to 65 mph when this big dog waited for the car in front of me to go by before running out in front of me! People stopped and phoned the authorities and the girl (late teens or early twenty’s) who owned the dog came out and drug it off the road and her mom saw that I was still breathing said she had to go console her daughter as she was really upset over the loss of the dog. They didn’t even give a damn about me, just their dog. Anyway the whole right side of my body is still swelling and I probably won’t be able to get out of bed Tuesday. They did some x rays of my right heel as it hurts like hell, hip is swollen, and right elbow has a big road rash and is really swollen as my jacket ground away in that area! Basically from my little toe to my neck on my right side is in the same shape as the v-rods. Thank God I was wearing my helmet! Well I'm getting pretty tired now as the meds are starting to kick in. I’ll check back in after I see the bike in the daylight.

Wow, that's really sad. Can't believe how people get priorities backwards. Sorry about the accident but glad you’re well enough to write. Sounds like the jacket and helmet did a good job keeping you alive. Take care bro. The bike can be replaced, you cannot...

that sucks all around... at least you're still with us, it could have been much worse.

tough call on the dog... as a dog owner/lover, I'd probably leave you lying in the street too once I knew you were reasonably ok... nothing personal or malicious, but I care more about animals than most people and would be devastated if it was my dog... not trying to be a dick, just being honest... some people are really attached to their animals, some as much as children... think about what you would do if it was one of your kids that got hit by a bike... sorry to banter on about it, it's a shitty situation all over... seriously, glad to hear you're reasonably ok.

good to see you were wearing a jacket and helmet... that certainly made a difference.

get better and get back on the road...

J.B. - Thanks for letting us know. This is just so rotten!! I hope the pain meds are doing their job and you could get some sleep last night. Let us know how you're doing today.

JB that just plain sux. Now the question is can the owner of the dog be held liable for not keeping the dog under control.

I just noticed in your profile that you and I are the exact same age right down to the day.

J B,

I am really sorry to hear about your accident:( . Take it easy until you get better. What shape is your V-Rod in? Like everyone here told me, your baby can be fixed but you as one of our V-Rod family members can not be replaced.

Most Sincerely
Frank

Crap,

This is getting to be a bit too common. I hope you get well soon, different than the VRod, your parts are not available anymore.

As to the dog, I love dogs and currently have one in my household. He is not taken out without a leash (even though he is only a lapdog). Its a shame that the girl lost her dog but we must be responsible owners.

As to priorities, I understand the girl going to the dog but not the adult/mother. What happened to love thy neighbor????

Get well soon, Juan

Glad you are going to be OK! And I have to say I agree with Joe. I prefer dogs over people in most cases. Again, once it was determined you were basically OK, I would have given my attention to the dog as well. This is no slight on you but what else could I do for you right at that point in time?

Sounds painful mate. Mend fast. I know dogs are loveable and all. I have had dogs and been devastated when they died. But when they nearly kill someone because they were allowed to wander on to a road, well that's just plain irresponsible. See a lawyer mate, the owners negligence caused an accident and seriously hurt you.

Glad you're still with us. Great to hear you chose to wear a helmet and jacket! I also feel sorry for the girl...dogs are not 100% controllable as much as we may want to believe, sh!t does still happen outside of our control. Thanks for passing on the words to us..get well quickly. - Crash

btw, I wasn't trying to diminish the situation, rather trying to put into perspective.

Who knows if the dog ran out the door by accident rather than just being off leash? My dipshit dog(s) have gotten loose at one time or another... though that doesn't make the owner any less responsible

There's no stupid dogs, just stupid owners.

Sorry again about the accident... hope your better soon.
