Looking at a 2003 V-Rod . . .

Is there anything I should be aware of with this "first generation" V-Rod? I've owned H-Ds but I am not real familiar with the V-Rod.

Are these engines long-lived? Any problems?

Very, very long lived. Probably the best motor HD has produced.

Thanks.

It's wet-sump, am I right? Is the oil and filter easy to change?

ETA: Never mind. I just looked at a YouTube video -- oil/filter change looks pretty easy. Good.
Yep and yep.
I don't think you will be disappointed.
How many miles on it?

That 15,000 mile checkup is a pain in the ass...

Oh well, the 2003 V-Rod I was looking at has sold. Anyhow, thanks for the replies.

It had 18K miles and the guy said that the 15K svc was done. But I never really trust what a seller says without documentation. Moot point now.

I like everything about the V-Rod except for the forward controls. I know that it can be modified to mids but I'm not sure I want that time and expense on top of the cost of the bike.

But they sure are purty! :)

Swapped out for mid controls on mine. Easiest way is to find someone willing to trade. I found a guy on Facebook, and we swapped out. Only cost my time and shipping expense. Happy as can be!
