18 cars and one big rig, all because some shmuck lost a steel table out the back of a pick up truck. Amazingly considering how the cars and trucks were stacked up three deep, no one died. The best part was knowing all the Chippies were tied up in one place, heh, heh!

I am always amazed at the amount of 8-10step ladders I come across on the highways, usually on the 10 Freeway.
Today I got a treat while in West Covina on a scout, I was filling up the motorbike and saw what appeared to be a GSX'er being chased down the wrong side of a city street by what was 5 cop cars by the time I was done fueling u[p and on my way, luckily the opposite way.

I didnt hear any choppers in the air so either it just started (hence the delay of the other coppers going by me) or the dont abide in Covina.
The latter is most likely the case from what I have read over the past across the country, cars and bikes. Makes papers when the innocent get injured or killed.

I myself am on the fence on the subject. In one way I think it would be safer to just let them go before somebody gets hurt or killed. Then I wonder what if the runner is a lunatic that gets away and lives to go and murder somebody etc....

A copper in Oz is being charged for causing injury or something like that while on a high speed chase......now the whole state will not perform a chase until the state goverment will give the coppers indemnity from such legal actions.................this could be fun......

I recall a traffic reporter on an LA news station mention that ladders are the most common road hazard on So Cal freeways. This same reporter also commented that the end of the month is when they have the most occasions of furniture in traffic because the end of the month is when most people move. I would not want to find a sofa in my lane on a dark night time freeway.

driving from Hollywood to Redondo one night around 2am a few years back there was a resin patio chair in my lane that I could not avoid, (cars on each side.) I hit it straight on and it shattered like glass puncturing my radiator like sharp spears. It SUCKED. I've wondered since if it would of been worse were I riding or if being on the bike would have left me enough room in the lane to swerve around it

I took a four by eight sheet of drywall on the 91 freeway at full speed. It was laying flat in the lane and the car in front of me vacuumed it up as it went over and stood it up on end directly in front of my bike like an interior wall had been erected in my path in a microsecond. It looked like the old Shell Mileage Test commercials when I blew through that piece of drywall. At least I was offered the flat side to hit, so no damage and no harm to me. If it was standing edgewise it would not have ended so well.
What pissed me off is just the night before I had to touch the fork legs and engine paint up after a truck blew a tire in front of me and a chunk of tread wrapped itself around the fork legs. The raw edges sandpapered the painted fork legs and the front of the engine. That wasn't my week.

That Almost happened to me last year on the 101 right in Hollywood, Luckily I was exiting so in the far lane but I saw a truck run over it and it flew straight up in the air and came down 2 lanes over from me and turning into dust.
Fun Times.

YOu know most high speed chases are joy rides or stolen cars. Very few are for anything like murder (OJ shown us that if you are acused of murder have a freind drive you real slow.) or even robbery.

We seem to have a run on cop impersonaters. Its one of the reasons for the blue light crack down on everything. A 5 car plie up was casue by an acused fake cop passing a line of cars in a no pass zone.

Out here we have the funeral escorts tying up traffic. They look like motor cops unless you know enough to look for registration tags on the license plates and white lenses where the blue and red lights used to be. They cruise along at 65 backing up traffic behind them. Turds.

" DAMN THIS TRAFFIC JAM, IT HURTS MY MOTOR TO GO SO SLOW "

I wish we could split lanes here but would be concerned about the learning curve. people get crazy in traffic.

are there stats regarding cage free operators getting into accidents from lane splitting? as a citizen, if i could sell some positive stats here in columbus, perhaps laws could be changed.

The only issue I see with stats is that they can be manipulated to whatever your ultimate goals are. Also people on the road typically feel like they are in line for a service and if you get past them you are cutting them.

I bet Lux can chime in here. Even though it is legal in CA I bet he has seen where a car intentionally will try to block a bike from being able to lane split if they see them approaching. This mentality can cause accidents as well.

LA and Bay Area drivers in particular are pretty savvy about lane splitting motorcycles. Everyone seems to understand it's legal and in my experience it is rare for someone to begrudge you a piece of freeway to pass them on. On LA area freeways it is pretty routine for cars to make room for you to pass. It happens every time I go down there. I aways wave thanks when cars do this for me. I don't split lanes more than 10 mph faster than traffic and try not to scare people when I pass them. Courtesy both ways.
San Diego is different because you have so many military transplants from the other states and they don't always react well to a lane splitting bike.
I have had occasions where cops on their wider bikes would slide over into a lane and wave me by while splitting traffic. On another occasion when I didn't split lanes to the front of the pack at a traffic light an Anaheim cop rolled down the cop cars window to tell me it was all right if I went to the front of the line. She laughed when I told her I just got off work and was too mentally tired to even try. I just wanted to cruise home and go to sleep.

I saw a quote from a tv reporter in California that said 4 out of 5 drivers in Cali thought splitting lanes is illegal. 1 in 10 admitted to intentionally trying to block a lane splitter.

in NoCal they try and block you. They know it is legal but don't give a shite. In SoCal they move out of your way. (for the most part) Do not think they know or care if it is or is not legal
