I had to do it. I've admired H20V's and CptAmerica's fairing mod for a while. So I pulled the trigger and here is the outcome. Also, I picked up one of those craftsman powdercoating guns that have a thread on here and coated the brackets and clamps. It did a pretty good job.

I fabricated some upper barckets to give so stability to the upper portion of the fairing but I made them about an inch to short. So I'll have to cut some new ones and recoat them. That should puch the upper portion of the fairing forward a bit bringing it closer to the light.

Two more mods left and I'm done (I think). I need to cut a new rear fender. This one I made about 4-5 inches too short. Then shave down the seat to reveal deeper lines on the bike. What do you think?

Has anyone mounted one on a 2012? If so, what brackets did you use?
If I'm not mistaken, the brackets that come with the Dron Fairing will work fine. Your attachment points at the forks will be different. You can go high-end and pickup some Memphis Shades fairing attachments in 49-55mm adjustable or go cheap with a couple of sets of electrical conduit clamps in 1.5 to 1.75 inch (you may need to measure the circumfrance of the forks between your trees). Your headlight drop can be purchased through Headwinds for the 2012 model (or you can fab your own mount) and you can find any 7inch headlight from a fatboy, roadking, etc. Hope this helps a bit.

I did the BoB Drone on my first VROD and I think it is the best looking fairing for the lines of the bike, hands down.
I would like to do it again, but I put on GR fork covers.
I just cant see clamping on to them.
The fairing definetly makes the bike look sleeker.
Let's be honest, the guage pod design sucks. Looks like a big snorkel or ET's head or something.

Pretty! Nice job. Flows well. Fender is fine, as is the seat. ride it! I would rotate the fairing forward to come closer to the headlight, and give a bit of wind protection. Also allows a bag under there for storage. Joe

The headlight I bought was listed in eBay as: 7" CHROME HEADLIGHT HARLEY FATBOY FLST HERITAGE SOFTAIL and the seller was: American Classic Motors. The whole headlight (in chrome) was $85 (even though I only bought it to use the bucket), so if you don't want the dual halogen headlamp and LED trim ring you can have a 7" headlight for $85. If you're running the standard single H4 bulb, that may be the easiest/cheapest way to go. The only other thing you'll need is a Headwinds headlight mount adapter which can be had through GR Customs. You can get the Headwinds adapters in glass black to match the trees. It moves your headlight mounting point from the upper tree to the lower tree. Sometimes you can score them off eBay. If you can find a 7" H-D bucket for cheap I still have the brand new headlamp from that kit that I'll be selling when I get home, as well as the original trim ring. The original trim ring has already been painted denim black.

The fairing works as well as you want it to work. Meaning that depending on how (what position/height/rake) you mount it will determine how much of a pocket you create. Obviously the lower you mount it, the more wind you'll get in your face/head. If you mount it to where the cutouts line up with your grips (unless you've swapped out to short risers and a flat drag bar) the fairing does remarkably well at cutting the wind off your chest/shoulders/face. You still get a little bit of it on your helmet, but that can also be addressed with a taller windshield or using one of the flare series windshields from Klock Werkes. The one thing to note is that because there is no inner fairing system you will get a bit of wind that comes up from the headlight area, which is why I installed the Electra Glide windshield bag. It worked out nicely as it gave me a little bit of storage space, plus cut the wind. The fairing also is adequate at redirecting a lot of the wind off your hands. It doesn't eliminate it, but it does reduce it.

well lookin at the install instructions online. it mounts with the center hole and one hole at each end. Just hope all three line up
i order the black trim with amber lights...

if not i have the brackets to relocate the turn signals to the forks..

did you use the brackets that came with the Bob Dron to mount yours? any tips/advice to get it to flow with the angle of the forks more?

LOL, nah not too bad. Little bit of metal work is all.

I'll remove the fairing to show you how I connected the brackets and take some pics to post up. I won't be able to get to it until this coming weekend though. Sorry brother..

I didn't cut and reweld my brackets like CPT did. I did cut about 5-6 inches off the bottom though. I also drilled a second hole in the upper portion and made a bracket that has holes drilled through at even intervals so I can adjust the angle of lean. I wanted to mount the brackets to the forks with two points per side versus one point. When all the measurements were complete I powdercoated all the brackets and mounts with my handy dandy 35.00 dollar ebay powdercoating gun. Thanks to whomever posted that thread. The system works pretty good.
Luckily when I cut and re-welded my brackets I maintained the 2 mounting points on the fork. I don't think the fairing would do very well at speed with only one anchor point per fork. I need to get one of those $35 powder coater thingies.

Do you have some more photos you could share I really want this look for the BD faring I would like to see where you have your mounts so some different angles and some close ups would be great!!! Thanks. I am thinking about fabrication my own faring as I don't care for the headlight size and where the daring is mounted more upright, I like yours down low and back. Nice bike!!!

Approx length of that piece? Length you used to have your fairing in its current position?

Start this prob wed or thurs. I cant find my old spike grips. Im also in limbo on the windshield. I purchased a short Klockwerks for the Bob Dron, and it is not as wide as the fairing- roughly 3" shorter on each side. I need to look and see if i like that look or use the stock windshield

I also ordered from Cyclevisions their trim piece with turn signals build in. I know that will not be as wide as the Bob Dron.

So use the Klockwerks and the Cyclevision-which will be the same width

Or use the stock windshield and the cyclevisions trim wont be as wide as the fairing?

HMMMMMMMMMMM.....
