Hi, I am about to install the Vance and hines powershots. And my Harley dealer says it is necessary to install something like the Powercommander, in order to achieve a better fuel delivery.
My question is now, is this really necessary, is there anyone who does this without the powercommander? And how?

And is there anyone who has those powershots from V and H? Are they any good? Nice sound? Performance?

Also, I read things like "topless". What does "topless" mean?

And, finally, I am planning on riding with the stock air filter until I have to replace it. After how many kilometres or miles , if you like, do I have to replace the air filter? Can it do any harm that I ride with the stock filter and those V and H powershots until I have to replace it? Because then I would use the SE filter. My nightrod has 4500km.

Thx for the answers

"I put these Power Point presentations together to help explain the terms "Topless and Semi-Topless" to anyone who wanted to know!

(There are of course many ways "to skin a cat"... this is one way!)

The vrod already runs lean from the factory. The back pressure lost from changing the stock pipes to an open type system reduces it more and thus the need for more fuel to keep the bike running correctly. The fuel management systems allow you to tweak the fuel at rpm ranges via "maps".

Thats about all I can tell you without screwing up from my limited knowledge. I have read that not using a fuel management system can cause some bad damage to the engine that will not be covered by a warranty.

thx for the fast repplies,
what a forum

That topless thing, is it harmful for something if the protective cover over the filter is gone? Like riding in the rain or something? Perhaps this is a stupid question, I don't know, forgive me :)

And does anyone know at what mileage the air filter is to be replaced?

thx

Here is a thread with info about the rain and topless:

My bike is only two weeks old and still custom. No addons for 08's yet.

The filter I would imagine is based on the enviroment you ride in. If its dirty replace mileage should not matter in my opinion. But ya know what they say about opinions.
