The most complex part is the cables under the left cover. Follow the instructions to the letter, that's the only way it's going to fit. Better yet watch the video.

So, is it corrrect you need the PCIIIr installed and the ignition key on to download a Map?

Correct unless you get a 9V battery power adapter. Then you can program it off the bike.
