Has anyone gotten their first renewal for insurance? I just got mine from Progressive and it almost doubled. I called to question it and they told me that my original policy was not quoted correctly and because I paid for the whole year, they couldn't change the amount until the renewal. I am just curious if this has happened to anyone else. I think that I will be looking for a new company

toofast2catch my second year with Dairyland was exactly the same as the first year. I live in the DFW metroplex which doubles my auto insurance and I pay $700 a year for two V-Rods.

Hmm..I just cut my insurance in half by switching to Progressive....

I would cancel the policy and find someone else if they are screwing you...

I pay $316 a year for mine through State Farm. They do have my other bikes, cars, truck and house though. I would suspect that is why it's so reasonable.

State Farm has been good to me as well... they do require that you insure at least one car with them before they'll touch a bike tho.

I just called my insurer (USAA) this morning to see if they would give me a discount for having completed the Motorcycle Safety Foundation safety course. They said that there is no discount here in California for having that completed, but I did save a whopping $3 per half for the V-Rod's passive security system! That's like almost a whole beer every six months!!!

USAA has no interest in insuring motorcycles. They told me so directlly I have been with them for 40 years and everything else is insured by them. Except the V-Rod. I'm with Progressive.

I live in Metro-Detroit and have USAA insurance. I've checked Progressive and Farmers Insurance and both were more than USAA. I pay $685 a year with USAA.

Still sounds like I'm getting screwed when Max has two V-Rods and pays the same as me...

I've got zero points on my license and no claims ever. What gives? Married, Homeowner (Insurance through USAA too), three cars, and 29 years old.

I pay about $775/yr for full coverage on my V-Rod (about $350 of the total) and Road King with GEICO. The quote from Progressive was almost twice that...I didn't check with my American Family agent (house and truck) because they are jerking me around on a few things; need to change when I buy a new house.

Amazing the differences in V-Rod insurance. I'm at $127 annually with Progressive... $500 deductible. multi-bike discount, and AMA Membership. BTW, this membership really has a big effect with Progressive.

sfarson, location has a lot to do with the price. When I moved into the DFW metroplex all of my insurance cost on all my cars doubled. I have all my cars with State Farm and have for over twenty years and could not believe the cost of insurance in the metroplex. Of course after driving around here just a couple of days it becomes clear why it cost so much. :)

WOW, looks like Miami isn't the place to live if you need insurance. Here's my cycle guard quote for the V-Rod and a Buell Blast (wife's bike)

Dear: Whatman:

We apologize for the delay in delivering your quote.

Here is the Cycle-Gard® Rate Quote you requested.

Your annual policy premium is $393.00.

You can start this policy with a low down payment of $69.00. The coverage’s you selected are as follows:

COV LIMIT DEDUCT BIKE 1 BIKE 2

BI 100/300 $ 45.00 $ 39.00

PD 50M NON-DED $ 16.00 $ 16.00

MED 2M $ 45.00 $ 83.00

UM-NON REJ NON-DED $ 0.00 $ 0.00

COMP 200 $ 28.00

COLL 500 $121.00

Cycle-Gard® is the motorcycle insurance policy developed by GEICO Indemnity Company to meet the special needs of Bike owners. Remember, when you start your Cycle-Gard® policy, not only do you get the same outstanding policy and claim service our auto customers enjoy, but you get motorcycle specialists available to you as well as a policy to meet your needs.
BTW, if you have Un/Under insured motorist coverage on your cars and you STACK the coverage you can delete the coverage on the bike. Your car's UM/UI covers you regardless of the vehicle you are in so long as it's stacked. One caveat, you have to change all your cars to stacking.

Also, I keep my insurance with State Farm. The price is within $50 / year and I have everything with them and an agent that I know. It's worth the $50 for the piece of mind.

You want to rent me your garage so I can use your address to get insurance.;) Insurance in Miami is unbelievably High. Just imagine what I pay for insurance for my company. Six trucks, two cars, and three trailers.:broke

Frank,

Better yet, you can use my house in Lake county ;)

I remember when I was insuring my race boat, the first question they asked was, "are you in Dade or Broward county?". If I answered, "yes" they would hang up

max, I think AGE as well as location are the deciding factors along with the coverage you choose! :2cents Eric

I have 100/300/100, full coverage, extra insurance coverage for passengers, 500 deductable. State farm. 360/yr

I use to have Nationwide insurance for years, then bought an 2000 R6 in 1999. They wanted 4,000/yr for 50/100/50 500 deductable. And they were pricks at that. I told them that it didn't make any sense to have it cost 4,000/yr. They didn't care.

I recently got a quote for a vehicle on progressive. Nearly 40% higher than State Farm.

Needless to say State Farm handles all of my insurance needs.
