Has anyone heat wrapped a VH 2:1 Outlaw exhaust, if so how did it turn out and did you start at the tip and work to the head or vice versa.

I am looking to wrap a black pipe and looking for some advice???

Thanks,

J.
I can't speak for the V&H pipe but I wrapped my stock head pipes that go into the CFR pipe. I started at the head and worked my way towards the muffler. The wrap came out awesome. I soaked the wrap in water before wrapping and pulled it tight while wrapping. I don't think you will find black wrap. My first attempt, I painted the wrap with the black wrap paint. I didn't care for it as the painted wrap got brittle and looked like crap. I ended up removing the wrap and wrapping them again with the titanium color wrap. I am very happy with the outcome of the titanium color wrap.
Best of luck.

Hey Ed, thanks for the reply I am going with your advice on not painting the wrap. It looks like i am going to go with the aluminum colored that I hope will compliment the anodized tins... Its trial and error but getting advice here saves me some cash and temper tantrums!
Thanks,
J

I have the Titanium colored wrap 2" wide (looks kinda like carbon fiber)

i might be interested in some of that wrap too.

i wrapped my stock with that what comes on the nightster from HD. turned white after a few months and washings. i went with the black from summit racing this last time, its thicker and darker, its turning a grey color now after about 2 months.

here are some pics of the Ti wrap..

Is that enough to wrap the whole exhaust? What is the reason for soaking it in water?? I have been thinking about wraping my exaust for a while now. Just not sure of the outcome?

you soak it in water and it expands a little, then when you apply the wrap you do it as tight as possible, when you start the bike the wrap dries and shrinks just a little to make a good tight fit.

Sharkey, how much are those wraps, you probably already put that info up but I missed it while searching for the perfect mod (low price wit lotsa bang) for my bike.

Where at in Maine is your shop, I could come up and save some shipping!

Thanks, J

Is that enough wrap to do 2-2 or 2-1 exhaust??

Yes that roll should be plenty - I suggest you try a practice run and see how it wraps... the water does what Robbie said. Helps to fit it tight. You can use a spray bottle of water instead of dunking the whole wrap at once...

Ahhh.... the perfect Mod..... Is there really such a beast?...lol

the Ti wrap for you is $65.00 and the Stainless tie wraps are $12.00 for the 4 pack...It helps when using the SS wraps to first put a hose clamp around the wrap then the tie wrap... when the wrap dries you take off the hose clamp.....

The shop is in Auburn right next to Lewiston.....

2-1 wrap

I have the Vance 2-1 Competion pipe. Mine is black as well and i wrapped it with black wrap as well. I started from both heads and worked down. It looks great. You still feel the heat a little on your right leg.

Hey guys just wanted to thank you for the input! Got some time during the winter to decide on what to do but wrapping with the heads out with Ti wrap seems to be the most appealing option so far.
Thanks again boys,
jay

isn't there a black tape I can get?

yes there is - I get black, tan, white or Ti. wrap in 1" or 2" width..

I have 1" black in stock right now...enough to do both pipes... for you $50.00 delivered...

Got my lava wrap from here:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DEI-010127/

I did mine from the headers back...double layering at the bends to keep some heat off the leg area. I did not soak mine in water at all... this wrap does not need to be soaked. Also, wrap the ends of the wrap with masking tape so that it doesn't fray. In the end, if you decide to put heat shields on, make sure to buy larger clamps. I have used both clamps and SS zip ties and found the clamps to hold better simply b/c the SS zip ties are harder to get it as tight as possible.

....as soon as I get the pipes the way I want them I'll be calling ya for the wrap, thanks Sharkey :)

glad to help out Johnny -

I also have some stainless steel tie wraps to go with the roll of tape....I will hold them to the side for you...
