Yep, I just read your post and figured it was slight enough of a modification that a new flash would not be required, I just drilled mine out as well. Sounds much better and looks good as well. Dont notice any change in performance. Hopefully it will not create a lean condition.

Entman,

Got a sound file? That might be my ticket untill I get some extra dough for the Thunderheader or Supertrapp.

Thanks for the pics!

I did mine not too long after I got it.I drilled 7 1/2 in holes deep.I used the manual setting on PC111r just in case. They sounded and worked OK.Stuff a set of V-Mods PC111r and an SE filter on and you'll love it.Costs less than $600 for all of it.

I just love the "Swiss Cheese" look!

Did mine last night after reading your post! Used a tapered rotory bit to clean up the final 5/16" holes. Sounds much better at an idle now. Also good when I goose it. And.... I can always go a little bigger if I want more noise. Thanks for the simple tip. Redrazor

Void The Warranty?

Hey guys -

Just got my V-Rod nine days ago... I want my husband to drill out my pipes like you guys are talking about here, but he says it may void the warranty and does not want me to do it. What do you think? I know there is talk of better sounding pipes but I love how "mean" those stock pipes look. Does anyone know if there is a warranty issue?

It will depend on the dealership. Some will baulk at any modification to the engine / exhaust, others will let you do almost anything. Have a talk with your dealer first, then if they baulk find one that won't!

Another option is, if you should have any problems during the warranty period, just pick up a used set of stock slipons off of ebay for $50-$100. That is how I am playing the game. If you have a problem, switch back before bringing the bike in for work.

hey txharleychic, nice bday present! as far as warranty issues, it depends on your dealer. some dealers are actually endorsing the V-Mods, and some only warranty HD Screaming Eagle stuff, and some wont even warranty that. If you have a good relationship with your dealer, then you will be probably be ok. I know someone will post the specifics about how your warranty protects you... I know if you have a failure, the dealer has to prove your modification caused the failure, but I believe you have to pay for the testing. There are many ways to get more sound out of your bike, and they are tried and proven by these people here... many miles. To be honest, this looks like a fairly easy way to get some more sound without affecting the way the engine operates. If you want more power too, then you need to do the v-mod type of modification. One of our members offers this service too. Of course, then you will need the SE air filter, and some sort of fuel management change. Again, there are a lot of threads on this, and if you are having trouble finding them, let us know... we will post a link for you. Best of luck

and if worse came to worse, I am sure any of us keeping our stockers just for that reason would be willing to "lend them out"... Imagine that, a set of stock parts for the forum to switch out for warranty purposes. I have pegs, a complete set of pipes to include headers, a mini sissy bar. Anyone need anything? :)
