You'll want to wait until Nov-Dec to purchase your GPS. Prior to starting my own business, I worked for the leading supplier of the digital maps you find in the units. It's the currentness of the data that makes the units stand out, not neccessarily the units themselves. The frequency of the map data used in the "the big Christmas" push is published around October. If you buy a unit that's on the shelf today, chances are the data is almost a year old. Considering there a millions and millions of updates to the data suppliers database a year (points of interest and streets), you want fresh data. Some companies have options to download new data (some charge a ridiculous fee IE. one third the cost of the unit). Future units will have the capability to have real time updates, but don't hold your breath on this one. I personally would by the cheapest, most current unit(remember, wait until Christmas sales) and considerate it throw away.
