I have an 08 v-rod with a Bassani after market exhaust. It's too loud at cruise speed. I found an 03 oem exhaust to put on it. Is it better to cut holes in the stock exhaust and put in the 02 sensors or use a sensor eliminator kit and then remap the computer to stock.

Personally, I think the 1st generation V-rod exhaust system is a design genius with its flowing lines. It is not that often to see these in a black appearance, something they did not come as original from the MoCo. Ceramic coating is recommended in this context due to the heat from the headers.

Modified exhaust requires a tune.

Totally agree. No aftermarket exhaust suits the bike like the original does. It just looks like it belongs, just too quiet! But I also think that the V Modded ones have one of the nicest sounds you will get from an exhaust. That deep throaty sound also really suits the bike. Win Win!!

Looks great in Black ! H-D and Willy G did have an eye for style there and a great sweeping look to conceal the exhaust volume they wanted - a masterpiece ! I owned an '03 Anniversary and loved the stock exhaust look and note, but was a bit quiet, and terribly heavy. I never V Modded it, but I bet the sound is just right. Good question for Ron, the O2 sensors could be installed by welding in the bungs in the proper head pipe areas, install two 18 MM bungs and bush it down to run the 12mm narrow band stock sensors or spend $ 980 ! more and install wide bands and a Power commander kit to ride and tune it to perfection. You may also be able to reset the ECU to a stock tune but if you V Mod the mufflers a tune is highly recommended or its going to run even more lean. Not sure you may be able to use sensor eliminator kit and a piggyback PC kit to tune it as well. Someone else here will know for sure. (y)

trouser52 - Google Fuel Moto, review the PC's, Target or Auto Tune options for your '08 then call them to discuss your options - do you have a controller on the bike now for the Bassani ? Did you buy the db reducer and try that ?

Thank you streetrodracer for the info. Couple of things I don't understand. Excuse my ignorance. What do you mean by "bushing 18mm bungs down to 12mm? Are the stock bungs 18mm? There is no controller on the bike . What is a "db reducer" ?

Most guys, if they are going to drill holes and install the threaded O2 inserts into the stock head pipes, will weld in 18mm bungs so wide band O2 sensors will fit in and can be used with a Power Commander 5 or 6 Controller using auto or target tune modules for tuning, auto tune for older bikes and Target tune for newer bikes that came stock with narrow band sensors. Stock narrow band sensors are slimmer at 12mm I believe it is and a bushing can be used to install the NB sensors in the 18MM bung if you so choose to run them - gives you the option. The db reducer is the quiet baffle available for the Bassani exhaust to quiet it down - also have you pulled out and checked muffler packing in the Bassani exhaust ? Stainless steel muffler packing is available if your fiberglass packing is blown out - (y)

Thank you streetrod for the information. I learn something new every day. I'll get started on the installation but will check my packings first.

Hello I may be interested in buying your Bassani if you’re going to sell it…?

Buy the SE slip-ons, with that you got the original look, with a bit more sound (deeper throatier), plus no tuning required.

I actually have the stock full exhaust that I just removed but I cannot stand the look…. I bought these black ones being cheap and don’t like them either…. I’m thinking I’ll just buy a set of Fitzgerald pipes…
