Gas Milage

Check other threads, but thats normal. Some fuel is required to keep the fuel pump cool. 100 miles seems to be as far as one can go. At 85mph, I can go about 85 miles.

With 0.8 gallons left, push it another 20 miles. I ussually get 110-120 miles per fill up.

If your right wrist is as active as mine, you may find 120 miles is a bit long. Running dry is a VERY BAD THING.

I got 90-100miles when stock.now I'm getting about 70-80miles.I don't let it go dry,once the fuel light goes on,I fill up.You don't wanna run the tank dry.The fuel pump is cooled by the extra fuel in the tank. :ride:

Range is extremely dependant on speed, riding style, and temperature. The best mileage I've seen was on a freeway run (steady 60 - 70 mph), in warm temperatures (~75 F); in flat terrain (Wisconsin). The gas light didn't come on till 93 miles, and I filled up at 110 miles with an 1/8 tank - less than 3 gallons went in. I'd estimate in ideal conditions you could probably squeeze out 130+ miles; but I wouldn't make a practice of it. I've also run the tank dry (stupid) with less than 110 on the clock - but that was after a few short runs in cold temperatures. Limiting your riding to freeway runs doesn't guarantee long range either. See Jan-Dirk's post about a speed run on the Autobahn. He only got 45 miles on a tankful - but then he was cruising at 135 mph...

I ran a tank 140 miles last weekend and still had a little (very little) left.

I fill up between 110-125. Most miles I ever got was 137...took 3.4 gal. to fill up

On my stock system- I get 40-43mpg for my easy commuting riding style. The yellow light comes on at 90-95miles at just under a 1/4 tank indicated. I run it until the needle is on E, usually between 120 and 130 miles, and she takes 3.0 gallons. Sometimes 3.1 if I take it below the E. I got 140 miles once during a nice 55-65mph putt.

I can't help but wonder how much fuel I've really got left after the guage says E.

Most miles I ever got was 151...took 3.6 gal. to fill up
long stretch of 280 in AL. All the gas station's were closed.

same here. Most of my miles during the week are commuting @ 80+ trying not to get ran over by stupid cagers. @ 115 miles usually takes 2.7gal to top off give or take.

On my stock system, 110-120 miles and 3.0 gal per fill.

100-110 for me, stock setup for now.

I average 55 miles before the light goes on. Thats at 90 - 140.

Under normal conditions, pretty much wide open, I can get around 90 - 100 miles on 3 gallons. Last weekend, I went riding with some guys (old farts) from work. We did about 5 mph below the speed limit for a 98.7 mile leg on the interstate. It took 1.93 gallons resulting in 50 mpg. When I filled up, the fuel computer went to 178 miles remaining. It was unbeleivable. If you can manage to keep your wrist out of it, you can actually get good results.
(kind of embarrassing having old women passing me giving dirty looks.)

I've been riding mostly city, and I ride w/ a lot of throttle on a completely stock engine. I have to fill up by 70 miles, usually put in 3 gallons at each fill-up. I always top it off - getting every drop of gas I can put in there.

I average 34 to 40 mpg, just depends on how much right wrist. I keep a close eye on my tripmeter mileage, my fuel guage gets stupid frequently, will go to E for some time, then float back up to a quarter while riding. Absolutely rediculous fuel guage, I wish it had a reserve, I haven't got burned yet, run out of fuel.

Good topic, I was wondering the same thing. I was riding with a group of friends and we were coming back from the Outer Banks Bike week, we did 106 miles before we stopped for gas. I was becoming very concerned, but after filling up with only 2.6 gallons I realized I was getting over 40 MPG. Just this last Wednesday I play hooky from work and road out to Winchester VA and then down to Front Royal and then home and I got 40.7 MPG again. I have over 10,000 miles on my bike and 3.7-gallon fuel tank I should be ok up to around 130 miles. That is a good thing to know since my fuel sensor has taken a dump on me, it now reads empty at between 23 and 30 miles on a tank and from then on never get above a quarter.

Went on a Ride this weekend down to Kentucky, Rode at Land Between The Lakes.
Beautiful Area to Ride!!! Anyway, I filled up at 110 miles put in 2.9 gals,
then I filled up again at 107 miles and still put 2.9 gallons in.

I may have answer for your fuel gage problem.Look at the shape of the fuel tank,and where the fuel level sensor is located.When you angle the fuel nozzle toward the front of the tank the fuel stream drives the float to the bottom of the tank.With high a rate of fuel being pumped,it just compounds the problem.Once that happens it takes a long time for it to return to normal,sometimes it doesn't until the fuel is burned down below the float level.I started angling the nozzle toward the rear of the tank and not squeezing the handle so much.problem solved. Hope this bit helps
