What is the feeling on using fuel injector cleaner / fuel system cleaner additives to the fuel once in a while?

Does anyone do this? Is it recommended?

I wouldn't put anything in the tank except for Premium unleaded. Since January 1, 1995 no gasoline has been sold in the US without an approved detergent additive package. I doubt that anything you pick up at the auto parts store is going to do anything more for you.

The best way to keep your fuel system in good shape is by a) not running the tank empty (like I did..) and b) avoid filling your tank at a station where there has just been a fuel delivery.

I'd add c: avoid gas pumps with a single hose for all three grades. With only 2 gallons in a typical fill up, you have to wonder how much of the last users economy gas is in the system.

The only thing to watch out for is that many cleaners use large amounts of alcohol, while the rider might enjoy that the injectors use silicone o'rings that tend to get dry and crack with extended use of alcohol.

The injectors and systems and fuels in general have gotten so much better in the last ten years that the worst fear is picking up trash from a bad station tank. Make sure to buy your fuel from a station that gets a lot of traffic so the turn over in the tank is much better and never fill up while the tanker is dumping fuel into the underground tank as all trash and moisture in the tank is being turned up at that time. I try to always buy from stations that have a seperate nozzle for each grade as well so that you don't get a half gallon of regular before you get any premium out of the hose.

For my cars and motorcylces, my V-rod included, I use BG-44K. It really is a great product, if you do use it in a motorcycles make sure you use it in the correct ratio. Also, it is not sold in parts stores. Often new car dealers carry it along with many local type repair shops.

conklin "4 Power" is awesome. their demo was pretty impressive. they sell a 2oz bottle to add with fill up. but that's up to 20 gal. you could use it 5 or so times and it's only a few $

look in vehicle lubricants.
then you have to find a distributor
I can hook you up if interested
