I was wandering around central Florida back roads today and checked my reserve indicator and noted there was 28 miles left on reserve. The reserve indicator switched between 28 and 27 miles left for a couple of miles then stayed steady on 28. The Fuel gauge was at 1/8 full.
Normally I wait until the "lo" light pops up then start looking for a gas station.
After a couple of miles I noticed the 28 miles still registered. Now I start watching it in more earnest and notice it remains at 28 for 5 or more miles. I looked at the A trip odometer which I reset at every fill up. It said 184 miles on this tank. This is more than I have ever gotten.
I pulled up to a stop sign, proceeded through and noted the reserve indicator said 26 then quickly 22 the 15 then 'Lo" all within 1/4 mile.
I figured something is wrong. Now the needle quickly moves behind the bezel and I said to my self "Time to find a gas station real quick". The only one I knew of was about 10 miles or so away so I headed for it.
As I approached the station, the bike sputtered and stalled. I pulled in the clutch and coasted into the gas station where I filled it up with 5.249 Gallons. The A trip odometer said 194.6 miles
This is the first time I have had any problems with the fuel gauge. Normally I can predict when the LED goes to "lo" I have .7 gal left.
Has anyone else experienced this failure or am I the first? It seems like the sensor got stuck at that position. The bike has 6800 miles on it and this is the first problem I have encountered Except for the headlight falling apart.
