I have a 2002, and experienced this bizarre phenomenon once -almost exactly what you described.keithlee21 said:
When I restarted the bike the gauge returned to normal - and I haven't had any re-occurences in the last eighteen months. I'd suggest you keep an eye open for it - but if it doesn't happen again, I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think it is related in any way to the fuel flange recall.
