morey,

It is an inch and a half nut. A box end wrench fits well, thats what I used to tighten it. A large socket/driver may not clear the instrument pod.

he he That figures. The biggest in my set is 1-1/4. But thanks for letting me know what size to buy.

This metric and SAE combo is sorta' an annoying thing about the VROD. I never know what tool to grab.

At about 400 miles I had to hit the brakes hard(not skidding),When the forks comprressed,I heard a popping sound in the neck. Then when they rebounded back up,I heard a clicking sound from the same place. The noises weren't there before.

I took it in, to have them find it and fix it.Turned out that pt#6,from picture above, and the top tree had to different tapers. They lapped the tapers until thet were the same.Steering was so much better. Before I picked up the bike I asked them to tighten up the nut to 80lbs,like the '04's.They said that is out of spec too tight. So,when I got home I tightened up the nut, with a wrench. No more clunking, popping,or clicking anymore.

ElrodontheV-Rod I'm not sure if it is Harley or the individual dealer that is the breakdown on this information. The sharing of this kind of information is one of the reasons that I think our little site is so important. It helps every single one of us including myself.
