I would like to hear from those that have floorboards on their V Rods. I'm interested in knowing if changing my pegs for floorboards would improve a) aerodynamics of the bike and b) improve my ability to reposition my foot to either shift up or down when going at hight speeds. When I'm going a high speeds I find it kinda difficult to reposition my foot because of the wind resistance. I think floorboards would help, but I wouldn't want the bike aerodynamics to suffer because of them.

Any thoughts, comments?

You are talking about something that has a drag profile of inches. While yes, technically IMHO, I think floorboards would decrease the Cd a minuscule amount (as compared to say your BOOT which is a much larger surface) I have serious doubts the reduction in drag will provide any measurable result outside the AMES research laboratory.

As for b) it depends. If you are trying to mount floorboards to reach the foot controls in the stock forward position, that is a fairly good distance as compared to a Road King or Street Glide. Maybe with a heel-toe shifter it might be closer if you have a good length inseam. If you are of Napoleonic stature you might be better off with a reduced reach controls and/or seat.

I have both rider and passenger floorboards and I didn't notice any difference in aerodynamics. I also have highway pegs mounted on my engine guard and I usually ride with my heel on the floorboard and my toe on the peg. My passenger floorboards fold up when I travel solo.
Kinda hard to see in 2nd pic but they are there...

At speed your lower legs create the most apparent drag. The effect of floorboards will be purely for comfort.

I have Kuryakyn minis on my Muscle in the rider position and that's exactly what they do for me.

I have bad leg spasms that keep me from running stock pegs. I have full sized harley style Iso Floorboards that mount in stock clevis (available from drag specialties) and are fully adjustable and cost about 1/3 the price of harley boards. I can move my feet around and back to almost a mid control stance and rear brake pedal is easier to use

these are much more comfortable to me an with pegs at speeds over 70 it felt like my feet were going to blow off the pegs, these help that too:

That's exactly what I'm looking for. At speeds over 70 I feel like my legs will blow off the pegs, and if I have my foot under the shift peg its difficult to pull it out to shift down or just to get in a more comfortable position.

I just wanted to know if the floorboard deflected enough wind around your foot so that it's easier to move your foot around without the wind pushing your foot back. I don't have a problem with reaching the pegs at all.

Wow, nice a VROD bagger. I'm new to this forum, thinking about purchasing a VROD. Would you mind filling me in on the details of your bike ? You can PM if you like. I would like to know about your floorboards, fairing and saddlebags. Is it all custom work or are bolt on kits available for this conversion ?

Thanks! I just purchased mine about 2 months ago and turned it into what it is today. There is a "V-ROD Bagger" section on this forum. Look there for ideas and build threads.

You can look here to see my thread on this bike...

I have chrome version of jonas1969's boards. I like them because of the variability of foot position...from mid to highway
