Factory clutch life?

I completely agree. Unfortunately, I've gotten stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic a lot lately, and there is no other alternative. And, since I live in the hills, this usually happens when the bike is facing uphill, further compounding the problem. I try to get it to engage fully as quickly as possible, but it's not always a viable option.
Fully engaged or fully disengaged is the least wear on the plates. Its the in-between time that kills it!

Clutches wear out from being slipped too much. Things like holding the weight of the bike when waiting at an up hill junction. Heat and too much friction. Clutch use should be quick but smooth. Poor adjustment can kill them quickly too! No slipping is the key to long life.
