Stock MAP for it Listed as 809-001
809-020 Main St Motorcycles Modified Stock Mufflers,
I read Is a good match for For Stock ECM, V-MOD 1 K&N AF, Topless,

Cool ,thanks for the info Steve ,I think it sounds pretty good ,not sure I dare to trash my stock pipes vs buying a slip on ,but it would save some cash ! Thanks for the input !

Sounds Nice - Nice Bike.
Thx for sharing your knowledge.

You using a PC3 or PC5?
Topless? Where did you put your IAT sensor thing?

I plan on doing VMOD1 - So I looked for an extra set of Stock Mufflers.
Got a Pair off a 06 R - Same Parts.
Just got them, in great shape.
Paid $60 shipped the, shipping was 30....
Deal of the year I'd say.

Half topless...I pulled out the snorkel and did the cheese grater on the front half of the box with my hole saw. That way I get better airflow, and keep the lid intact. Theory is to direct higher airflow from the front, and not get alot of heat coming in from below via the engine. So the sensor is still in the same spot.

"did the cheese grater"
Never heard of that. Sounds logical.
Heat form below coming up is hot..

Got a Picture or Description of how you modded it?

THX!

Well it's dark out and raining, so i can't get to it right now...but I pulled this from the Buell forum where I got the idea.
I basically just used bigger holes and only did the front half.

Not that year or model matters really, the engines are all basically the same... I have a 08 D (1250 cc) with full thunder header. Very loud, great power, very hot. I finally wrapped it under the heat shields.

I also have wife’s 07 D (1130 cc) which had a CFR slip on. Those were the raciest slip you could buy when they came out. Also loud but great power at top end.

I took CFR off due to decibels and the wife wasn’t in high rpm range anyway. The stock pipe had been drilled by the previous owner so had a little sound and actually performs better on torque at lower rpm where she rides. She thought I did her a favor. But it doesn’t look nearly as good and is 4 times bigger.

If you want max performance dyno is better than someone else’s map. What type of tuner is less important. And if you don’t want dyno just get a Dobeck and tune yourself.

Even with drilled out stock pipe a simple tuner to richen things up is where you start.

I would have to agree with the sound of drilled out stock mufflers. I think they are the best sounding of all. Although sound is so objective. They are loud enough but still have a deep tone without the raspyness of aftermarket pipes. Although I also think they look the worst of all. But.... they are inexpensive.

I actually don't mind the look. Has a pretty cool "hot rod" look, but they are really heavy. Drilling out the baffles "VMod" is definitely the best sound hands down, but you better have pretty laid back neighbors because it's for sure the loudest exhaust.

RE- Best Sound - " would have to agree with the sound of drilled out stock mufflers."
You mean VMOD-1, use a hole-saw to cutout the inner baffle and pull it out?
Not the mod where you just drill some holes in the muffler tip, right?

I plan on doing VMOD-1, I got 2 sets of stock pipes to work with.
Loud but not nuts loud, unless up in higher the RPM'S I hope,
like you can still roll out and idle it past someone walking a dog and stuff like that. Sitting Warming up the idle is loud but not obnoxious loud?
No Issues here in MA about Passing inspections, just wondering..
Thx!

I read somewhere on here that VMod is the loudest exhaust option, according to DB readings. I'll have to see if I can find the post. So that means pretty loud. I'm the def the loudest bike at any meet i go too.

Thx-
Maybe I should think over just drilling holes in my first stock set and going topless or Top with Holes. With a tuner.

I blew up a PC3, so Dynojet is offering me a PC5 for 200 or a PowerVision for $269.00
* Gotta make up my mind soon.
Still the VMOD-1 must sound good, like the Revo engine should.
Thanks for the advice guys.

Not even a close comparison as far as I am concerned. There are 2 options for aftermarket exhaust.. Obnoxiously loud and ear bleeding loud. That is it. Removed baffle from stock sounds nice. It has a low tone but still nice and loud when needed. Take the mufflers off and just run the 3rd volume for sound level and see how you like it. After market will be waaaay louder and raspier.. You can go to your local auto store and pick up a couple pipes to fit over the 3rd volume as slip ons. That works well too. But it is louder then VMod. Sound is so objective, try it and see for yourself.

Drilling holes is pointless for performance. Go full VMod if you have an extra set. I really don't think you'll be disappointed. It's an easy mod to do, should only take you about an hour start to finish. Then do the air filter mod and download the map from DynoJet and you're good to go.
It's the last thing you'll need to do until you're ready for stage 2.

I got the Stage 1 done.
I got a Pair of R Mufflers - $60.00 shipped. wo-yah
They Just happened to come like a VMOD-1
except with a custom little perforated spark arrester type pipe welded
in exhaust the hole - I opened that up.
I Saved the Stock ones.

Setup the power vision - Flashed the" stock improved " Tune. -
It was better than stock.

Put on the Modded Pipes, Took off the Airbox Top,
Zip-tied the Air Temp Sensor forward of the AirBox
Loaded the "Screaming Eagle Slipons w/ Free- Flo AF" tune.
I Have some better old version maps to convert and try.

Bingo: Sounds great. I Got used the Louder sound pretty quick,
Low RPMis still polite, not bad.

Definitely Jumps up stronger 4k and up. Noticeably Faster
Sounds like a Tuned Sports Car up High. Throttle Bodies do a big Swoosh...
Very Happy with it.
Got work to do learning tuning.
How to Reduce Decel Pop 101 is lesson 1.

Thanks a lot for sharing the advice/experience on this Mod!
