280 Top Suspension Mounts

Yes, in order to have your suspension travel you have to widen your frame where the upper shock mounts are. I widened mine by about 3 inches to fit my custom fender in between the frame and I have full suspension travel. What's even better is that I can dump my air shocks and drop my fender within a 1/4 inch from my tire as seen in my gallery. Look at how far the D&D exhaust is from the rear axle where it would normally ride with the suspension up to stock height. You cannot just throw a 280 or larger on and expect it to ride like stock without modifying the frame, but it is WELL WORTH IT!!! I have a 300 and would never consider ever going back to anything smaller!!!

Reading with great interest your email as I have possibly the same problem you had. I`m putting in a 280 Hogpro widened swingarm, widened rear fender and 12" shocks, 280 rear tyre on 10" wheel.

What really annoyed me was that when I was looking into this, Hogpro who knew it was an 04 "A" never mentioned there was likely to be a problem with the frame.

When you said you widened the frame, was this something you did or is it a specialised job ?
Do you have any photos showing the extent of work ?
I was actualy thinking of welding on new studs, and then removing the excess off the back of the mounts, what do you think ?

Regards

Phil
