This may be a stupid question but, wife had a little antifreeze leak from one of the hoses, I tightened the clamps and they were loose about 3/4 of a turn, should these be pretty tight?
Thanks again everyone for answering questions for me!

pintvrod the problem is they use a worm gear type clamp that does not hold constant pressure. They tighten them from the factory but after a period of time it is normal for the hose to compress under the clamp and everyone should check those clamps during normal maintenance. While many people don't like the spring clamps that autos use now days they are amazing and almost never suffer the leaks that we saw years ago when manufactures all used the worm gear design.

And not to beat a dead horse, but I had a nasty coolant leak and I torqued those suckers down with a ratchet. No problems since. Not a bad idea to check every now and then too.

The hose ends shrink with age and cause leaks. The clamps don't work loose.

I always thought they used spring clamps because they were cheaper than the worm gear type. It never occurred to me that they might be better.
