Went to my selling dealer today to request the form to cancel the extended warranty from the "finace manager" ok he said and pulled the form from his desk. He then asked for a copy of my contract which I did not bring, he stumbled for a second and said he would look it up for me. After asking a few questions, name address, mileage now on the bike he came to the big question "why do you want to cancel?" I told him that I do most of the work on my bike myself and if I need more advise I turn to the Service Manual or refere to this forum. He rolled his eyes back, thru both arms in the air and said " Oh come on you don't have to come in here and lie to me, our mechanics can hardly work on a V-rod what makes you think you can? After a few seconds of silence he said " I am going to need proof you own your bike, it says here you financed it" I said I payed it off. That was not good enough, after all I was a liar.
So I had to come home and fax him a copy of the Title that showed the release of lein. Just thought you all would like to hear about this. Selling Stealer Oak Lawn Harley Davidson, Oak Lawn Illinois "the original MSRP dealer" as their slogan says.

I bet you really want to take your bike there so they can "hardly fix it", since they can hardly work on them. What a great promotional for their service dept.

My understanding is that the bike doesnt have to be payed off. The price of the warrranty just goes to the bank. I am considering canceling my exteneded as i have a local custom bike builder that i like dealing with more.

:them: Warranty and GAP get handled this way when you finance through Harley (EagleMark). I've cancelled the warranty once, and the GAP twice. They send the check to the stealer, who then verifies the bike is paid for, then gives you the check. It's a fine example of the right hand not telling the left hand what's going on... It's not the stealer, it's EagleMark's policy...

That would have been a good time to have a recorder with you. You don't have to have the bike paid for to cancel the extended warranty, I canceled mine and the money went back to the finance company instead of me. My warranty was worthless because my local dealer couldn't fix a bread sandwich, thats right two slices of bread with nothing in it, they would screw even that up.

I would have

But I never thought I would hear that statement. The reason I had to prove that I had paid it off was so that I would receive the check not the bank. I should have told him to go f**k himself for the statement he made, but I considered the sorce.

That's incredible that someone in a business setting, that you don't know, would say something like that. I think I would inform their management, their owner and HD Corporate. That remark was totally unacceptable, and the guy should be fired.

Hey Thanks

I almost bought a bike there. Glad I didn't. The place I go has been great, that is, Heritage HD in Lisle IL. My bro-in-law lives right over there by Oak Lawn HD. I have been in there a few times. The guy tried to sell me an SE2 by turning it on and saying look at all the pretty lights - I thought gee, that's all you can tell me about this bike. He then said, well this is the fastest bike you may ever ride - it is not for beginners. I said oh yeah, I have an '85 Vmax right now. He really didn't have anything to say after that.

Try dealing with an insurance adjuster that knows jack about bikes. I guess I'm lucky, the only tech that has a clue at the local dealer is a Vrod specialist. He rides, races, wrenches Vrods. His bike is a modified B, B for Bada**!

I'm wondering if the Canadian Extended Warranty is any different than the one you american folks are offerred. I put it on my '06 D when I bought it. The extended warranty coverred my bent rim and suspension when one of our wonderful potholes thoughroughly screwed me. The bill would have been around $1200 bucks but the warranty coverred it all. So my warranty is already half paid for and I still have 6 years left on it. I understand guys wanting to work on their own bikes, but doesn't the astronomical cost of the parts that may need to be replaced factor into the decision to get the coverage or not?

Hey Max, thats called a "wish" sandwich, Bow bow bow(Blues Brothers). Sorry you Yawl are canxing your warranty. I've already needed it for a free front tire and an oil leak that cost over $100.00 in parts. I had it added to the loan so it was'nt like out of pocket to get it. If something ever major happens to the engine (never happen, Porsche see's to that) I know I'm covered. My stealership also has a tech that breathes and eats V-Rod, so I'm very at ease knowing all angles are covered.:thumb:

When I bought my bike they sneaked the extended service contract on there and I, admittedly, didn't see it until I got home. (There is something to be said for being too anxious to get the papers signed and out the door) Anyway, I gawked when I saw the $1000 extra I had paid for a contract I told her I didn't want. I went in the next day prepared to throw a fit but it wasn't necessary. They did give me a little resistance at first because I got the bike for a nice price to begin with and I'm convinced these B.S. extended warranties are one of the several ways they pad their profits.

I had to tell them several times I was taking the bike overseas and wouldn't be using a foreign dealership for work. In the end, he did cave but sent the dealership owner over to "make double sure" I was making an informed decision. So, I walked out the door with a new rod for $14,000. No dealer doc fees...no prep fees... no license fee... no sales tax... no warrantee... no GAP coverage... no $2K in extra crap goggles, T-Shirts and Chrome rolled into my payment. $14K even.

And now it's paid off 15 months later.

That was Big Sky HD in Great Falls, MT. I had a good experience with them overall.

It really sounds like there is quite the variation in dealer service across the country when it comes to HD Dealers.
