Hell yeah man!! Give it hell every chance you get, no need to own a vrod if you're not lol you could very easily ride a Goldwing if you wanted to take it easy ROFLJust a warning: I ride hard, so this isn't my first time riding the pavement and probably not the last![]()
Yea, Vintage that's where I picked up the steel stem triple clamp for my R - and H-D bags bracket kit too - buy it asap if you can there not many left when I bought mine a few months ago - I got a new upper triple clamp also off ebay plus new bearings. Remember lower steel stem triple comes with the bearing cone, the race in steering head ( if not rusted ) could be left in there & reused, big PIA to get out if you don't have the tool, get one. Top probably needs replaced as well. Also - use your parts manual to get all the part #'s you need and use NEW price for the parts list. H-D dealer probably won't even take the bike in so it's up to you to build parts list and walk in and get labor estimate. When in doubt round up. If 0.00 in '06 R online H-D parts finder ( Ronnies or St. Charles H-D ) google part # and find old price or use new price on newer V Rods or other H-D's if still available. Once you get accident report submit with parts & labor to fix damage to insurance co. If you don't do this they may urge you to total the bike and slap a salvage title on it, just to avoid the hassle of fixing it and possible future handling issues, which is baloney. Tell them you want to keep the bike and fix it right up front and get the cost list together and to them asap, even before the accident report if possible. You don't want to start off again with another R, no telling what you'll end up with unless you find a cream puff but they are getting hard to find, I looked at every V Rod on Cycle trader recently, not one R but you might luck out - remember possible shipping cost. If you settle for a repair cost that's less than the current totaled value you'll end up with a couple to three grand extra in your pocket - I did. Best of Luck !![]()
That's the issue now with the bike (parts). I use to ride somewhat hard, but a bit worried if I can get parts, and how long it will be down. Guess if I had more than one bike, might not be a problem. But no room for another in garage. Had my share of work on this thing. So I air on the side of caution, because I like it and at 100k its earned my respect.Bought one today when they gave me a special offer ...........

Now I have to fight it out with GEICO since it isn't in the first estimate. How the hell can you do an estimate with just a few pictures? Well they're starting at $4,300........ Told them they aren't totaling out my bike. checked it over today and replaced 2 fuses. IM fired right up until the wiring harness to the right hand controls shorted it out.......... wires are cut in halfLet the games begin, off to Stealership tomorrow to get some quotes on parts and labor. Will by parts from them if they work with me.

Had a similar experience with my '71 Buick Skylark. Ended up NOT totaling the car or salvaging the title, getting paid for the parts... and doing the work myself.UPDATE: GEICO came through! Wasn't easy though, with 2 "repair" facilities saying they'd charge for a quote but they wouldn't actually work on a Vrod. Followed Street's recommendation and did some leg work on getting prices on my own. Contacted my GEICO rep, and worked with him to get the funding without totaling out my R. Stressing the "you aren't totaling out my bike" part......... Now the fun part, the rebuild. Thanks again to all!
Just a short ride with a long slide and a flip.![]()
This is great news man!! Progressive hooked me up on mine with the deer incident, and I can't be happier. I didn't replace everything i was supposed to get but i don't really care about the scratches on some parts, it still rides nice. I'll probably replace that stuff because i want to later on but i don't mind holding onto the money right now. That stress about them totaling thing is definitely unreal, great news bro, very happy to hear it. If you need/want anything that i took of mine feel free to PMUPDATE: GEICO came through! Ha my mind originally read this as "You could very easily ride a Goldwing if you wanted to fake it...LMFAO...Hell yeah man!! Give it hell every chance you get, no need to own a vrod if you're not lol you could very easily ride a Goldwing if you wanted to take it easy ROFL
Sorry to hear of your spill. Hope your thumb heals well - that not an easy injury for a dedicated rider.Let your experience be a lesson as all motorcycling is. All should install crash bars. They pay in advance. In my case, similar to yours, I went down skidding at ~35 mph across a wet white road marking with the front wheel locked on my 06 Nightrod. Practically no damage except for the saddle bag (left side) which I just sowed up. Vrods are very durable. Broke my right thumb and very bruised down my left side. Back riding in 6 weeks. Be careful everyone. You have to look out for yourself. Everyone of us here would stop to help but probably won't be there when you need it. Ride on...
