Was supposed to be a short ride to the foot hills parkway, 2 miles from my house. It ended up only about 1 1/2 miles where I hit some crumbled asphalt on a sharp right hander, and I couldn't correct it. The rest is history. Waiting to see what GEICO has to say. I'd prefer to rebuild with all I have into it, but might be in the market for another R. Won't power up at the moment, headlight comes on but nothing else including the instrument cluster. My left hand is the size of a softball, so I can't dig into it for a few days. I will have a R, just not sure if it will be this one. (y)

Just a short ride with a long slide and a flip.
Frogman WTF ! ? Total bummer !! but hopefully your hand isn't broken ! And yea heal up fast - wife fell over backwards playing tennis 2 weeks ago compression fracture of lt wrist required an operation, push rod to force wrist back out, T shaped plate and seven screws. Riding bud went over bars on his mountain bike and broke his rt hand a month ago - This shits going around so I'm being super careful !!
But yea Love the foothills parkway ridden it many times on my Triumph Triple and Street Rod, one & two up, fantastic cool down after doing the tail of the dragoon - Bike looks totally fixable thinking shorted wires blew fuses and rt engine off switch disabled things. New switch housing, Quick turn G2 throttle tube, grips, front brake master assy, possible just a fluid cover, mirror, new mufflers, etc and you're up and running. Do yourself a favor, my street rod got backed into with me sitting on it in a parking lot on the other side of the dragons tail - if the H-D dealer tells you 2 months to give you an estimate just write down all the NEW Cost parts needed, get that parts estimate, go to service dept. and ask for flat rate for R&R of the parts, bleed brakes, check front end fall away etc. - include new airbox cover cost and special paint $ 350 add it all up, add a $ 600 helmet and submit to insurance. Yes, it'll be a bit less than totaling it but you can get a few used parts and fix it yourself and end up with a few thousand left over. Worked for me ! Heal up Dude !! (y)

Yeah I am really never comfy on hard right as I am left. I guess it's a equilibrium thing. Get well soon.

That is the thrill of riding a motorcycle. You don't know what's on the other side. Fortunately, mostly something positive. Judging by the pictures, it has gone well this time. A reminder to use appropriate driving equipment such as a ff helmet and gloves. Always.
Heal well. (y)

Wow man crazy that there was crumbled asphalt in the turn!! I'm happy to hear you're relatively ok though! I hope you get a good insurance adjuster too, they're quite helpful if you get a good one. Did you get a chance to take any pictures of the gravel/asphalt in the turn?? Cuz they're probably going to want evidence sadly.

Since we use the right lane here in the US I think its a combo of the sightline to oncoming traffic is much better in a left turn than a right turn, especially in the mountains where many times a terrain wall is on your right , rocks, gravel and wet leaves etc. can be laying on the road in a blind right so self preservation tells us to be wary and slow down. Other thing is it's more natural to have the front brake and throttle closer to your body in a right turn rather than farther away in a left. Every closed circuit M/C race I've ever been in has gone to the left - but take a left handed person, put throttle and front brake on the left and they'd probably feel better turning right - until the blind or restricted vision right turn, then they'd be more careful and slow down like us righties. Ok, You're good! How could you tell I had the Quick turn G2 throttle tube on my bike with that picture? I have to replace the tree since the steering stop sheared off, it was factory as I never changed it out since it never developed a clunk. I also have all the original tins /covers. Already have a list of available factory parts, aftermarket mods I installed, and parts available for discontinued factory. Thanks for the heads-up on how to deal with H-D dealer, not sure how it will go since they know the only way they'll touch my bikes would be recalls. As soon as my hand is usable I'll dig into it for the rebuild. We have plans for Sturgis this year and the R will be there. They can have my bike right after they take my guns!

Good idea, will have to revisit and take some pics.

Frogman - if you get stuck for a triple tree let me know I'll have the OEM aluminum stem coming off my bike soon since I bought a heavy ass steel stem with new bearings to install - I'll have an extra - but check if vintage parts has any more steel stem triple clamps available first. If so buy that and charge insurance co for a full price OEM Aluminum stem triple on the estimate. That's what H-D would do, and keep the difference. (y)

Found some original 46781-06a (steel stem?) new on Ebay going for $300. Have a list of visual items started, going to dig deeper into the bike tomorrow. Just need to get GEICO moving on this, and Blount county sheriff's office said they have to fill out the report, send it to Nashville for approval before I can get the report. WTF? Vintage parts? that a website I don't know about?

These guys. And if they won’t ship, it’s about 1/2 hour away from me.
