All,

I found a used 2006 airbox cover on ebay for $70, plus $25 shipping. I am looking for a used one in any shape or color for a project I am working on, so this one fits the bill nicely. My questions to the knowledgeable riders on the forum are:

1. When did the Airbox covers start being manufactured in steel versus aluminum?

2. will earlier model airboxes fit on a 07 DX, or do I need to stay in the 07 or newer range?

Thanks

Joe

I do not know the exact answer to your question, but my 2009 Nightrod Special has a steel airbox cover.

They went to steel mid-model year '07. I believe the only difference in the covers is the placement of the locking pin that is the under the seat. If I recall correctly it is simple to drill out either tab to fit either bike.

Bproulxvrod,

Thanks, that answers both questions then. I am going to be doing some cutting, welding, and painting on it, so I better stick with steel.

Thanks
