42 mpg !

I think I got my Dobeck finally dialed in. Took a 2 hour ride today, I'd say an average of 55 mph on various roads, only a few lights, mostly 5th gear. I had gotten 38mpg at the same temp previously with a setting of 3.5 on the green, though it seemed a little lean. Went up to 3.7 and it reacts instantly to any throttle input. I figured with the higher setting it would be worse, but it must have been too lean. The recommended for stock is 3.5 so with the snorkel removed/K&N/VModIIs it seems reasonable. If it stays this good, I'll get it dyno'd to see where it's at....especially to see if I'm safe on the red pot.

I use 1st to get there, then shift to 5th, my friends say I only need those two gears ! I get around 33mpg when most of my driving is on the 4 mile 35mph twisty stretch to work.

I get about 29-30 MPG on my DX :hidesbeh:
I used to get 27 before the twintec.... but even with the trottle monkey I am getting 32 at 90 MPH

I don't think I could get 42 if I got behind it and pushed. :D Seriously though I don't care what my mileage is. The fun of this bike for me is the feeling I get when I crack the throttle and since I do it often my gas mileage will always suffer. My Vrod is a toy not transportation. I want good gas mileage out of my car. I want a fun ride out of my Vrod.

Mine is both and when I am on the highway, I prefer mileage with the 'potential' to 'maneuver' at will, if ya get what I mean! I do get where you're coming from, though, because my Buell TT is becoming more of my everyday bike (never needs washed!) and the V is becoming more for screwing around on the weekend and I don't really care about the mileage much, but since power has more to do with the red(~main jet) and yellow(~accel pump) pots I don't see it as bad to have the 'cruise' pot at a setting that doesn't waste gas between 'accelerations'. After a long discussion with a Dobeck tech, I bet I'm still around 13.5-14:1 on the green.

I average about 40mpg overall. I realize that is higher than some. I think you are easily OK on the red pot. Each click is equal to a jet size change so youve gone up a couple. Since the EPA doesnt test at WOT you usually dont need to add much fuel on top of the factory setting at WOT. Having had several bikes dyno tuned in the past Ive found the recommended setting for TFI, PCIII or whatever are usually rich up top.

I must have missed something here, I have never really checked the gas mileage in 9,000 miles. But, I have put a lot of gas in the small tank. Every mode uses more gas per tank, but the acceleration continues to drive my desire to the next mode.

You actually skip all those gears? Whenever I get on mine, even if I'm just taking it to work, I can't help but enjoy shifting thru all the gears. I couldn't imagine just skipping all that to save a couple of bucks every fill up.

With 16ga, topless and factory flash, I get about 37. Better if I keep it below 70 (I think the batwing costs me a couple of mpg at speed).

who cares about gas mileage.....if you can afford a v-rod and all the mods then you should be able to afford filling it!! we are talking 3-5 gallons guys!! If you want mileage then buy a :moped:
:them: Who buys these things for the fuel economy?

Well, since you asked, I actually care a little...Cause of the money? No, still pretty fuel efficient, even at 30MPG. The more MPG though, the more range, that's the only reason I care...Even then though, if I found a mod (that I could afford) that dropped me from 30 to 20, but jumped my power way up, i'd be all over it. :)

Just because there are other things with better mileage certainly doesn't mean anyone gave up their right to talk about mileage...Sheesh.

wonder if the wide open throttle enthusiasts would be so heavy handed if gas was $8 a gallon as it is here!!
Yikes!!!! $8 a gallon!!!

Here we are just under $4 for the good stuff. Even if I am wide open on throttling, it is still way better gas mileage than my old truck.

Now I did get this bike for good gas mileage, and hopefully nobody here will tell my wife anything different ;)

am i the only one a little confused after reading that. You care about mileage, but would do a mod in a heart beat if it gave you more power and lose of mileage.....so like i said.....WHO CARES ABOUT MILEAGE!!!!!!

Yes, you're the only one confused. MPG = range.

Why do people with 02-06 bikes get bigger tanks?

For looks? No, for range.

Is range my #1 priority? Of course not. It's a balancing act. Would I give up a little range for more power, yes. Why? Because range isn't my #1 priority. The only way what you say makes any sense is if you look at #1 priorities only, then I would agree, buy a freakin' scooter.

But if I could do a mod that gained 5 HP but lost 15 MPG, down to 15 MPG total, then um, no. If I could do a mod that would gain 30-50HP and go down to 20MPG, uh hell yeah.

So, if you were confused before, i'm sure you are now.

You need to get yourself voted off that island ASAP my friend!
I was shocked at the gas prices when I visited over there. A buddy of mine that used to live over there just bought a full size Silverado that gets about 12 MPG just because he'd never been able to own something like that before.
I get around 27-30 MPG on my bike and 20-25 in my car, so it's definately justified to own the V-Rod - I'm being ecologically responsible! :diablo:

I see it as an indication that I have an efficient safe setting at cruise. When I ride to work alone, many would call me a butthead, not realizing I'm just having fun and not doing it to show off. My yellow and red settings ROCK.

But when cruising with my friends I don't ride like that and when you cruise down the highway for 2 hours and are the one telling everyone to pull over, then YES, range counts. Have no doubt, if I only ride to work on a tank (6 smooth curvy backroad miles), my mileage is closer to 33....

I rarely shift straight from 1st to 5th, it's just what my friends joke with me about cause when I ride with them I jam 60 in first and then settle into a nice ticket avoiding cruise speed while they catch up....

If my bike got 90 miles out of a tank driving it hard, and my work was 100 miles away and I had to stop and get gas to finish that last 10 miles, I would still ride it hard!!! But that's just me, I'm addicted to the power.
