I've checked out the AHDRA & New England Dragway Schedules and formulated a plan for the season.

If my leave plan request is approved and nothing unexpected occurs, work or family matters come first:

I'll be able to attend up 5 AHDRA events this years, all in the east running as VRD-941:

• Orlando, FL 3/5-6,
• Numidia, PA 5/21-22, The Secretary of the Treasury (Marie) is coming, since it's also our 17th anniversary.
• Norwalk, OH 6/4-5,
• ATCO, NJ 6/25-26,
• Rockingham, NC 10/8-9

Interspersed with these dates, I'll start my season at NED on 4/2 weather permitting doing T&T and a couple of track rentals in late April, in the ET/MC (slow) as ET-943 refining my skills, reaching the point of earning a top bike license, 9.99 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile! :notworth:

If the goal is reached, then I'll do ad-hoc races in TOP Bike and continue with the ET bracket racing through the end of the season.

Overall by the end of the year, I should be better prepared for a full season of Top Bike & another series of AHDRA ~east~ races in 2012.

Suit Design pages 3 & 4

Racing fans, the PDF attachment shows two versions of the suit design, page 3 & 4 is what I expect to see when I pick it up on Monday, I have my Fingers Crossed that it's ready before I start the trip. I would really like to have it with me for Darlington on 3/2 T&T Break-in procedures.

First Time on the track with the Destroyer !!

Here I am in Hartsville SC, at the Darlington Dragway, making the break-in runs on the Destroyer.

Getting used to a lot of changes, no forward controls, tight clearance between seat to mid pegs, I have long legs, so I will be making mod's to offset the mounts with spacers, I've seen a few others do this and anticipated I might need to do this, tonights experiences confirm, I DO need to make this MOD.


The following issue was discovered during RUN-1 which I was limited to 6000 RPM at Half Throttle.

The Pingle ignition down-timer failed to operate correctly, this has been known to be a troublesome component on the initial run of Destroyers, IIRC they modified the electronics in a later version of the timer. Having known about this being a possible problem, I brought the one I removed from the 04-VRSCA, I know that one has been working great for the past few years.

The symptom of the failed unit, is that the unit sends an errant signal to the air solenoid after the 1-->2 shift, instead of releasing the solenoid, it stays on keeping full air on the shifter and it only releases if you shut down the engine. I proved this out by placing the bike on the lift, raising the rear wheel only, started her up, clutch in, kick into first, then hit the shift button, hammers into second and the pneumatic piston remains extended.

Shut down the bike, checked the Electric over air solenoid, which has a manual air trip button, I confirmed the solenoid is bleeding the air charge after the fire event stops. After plugging in the replacement unit, the shifter action was back to normal. Crisis over!!

I proceeded to make additional runs to complete the break-in requirements and try to acclimate myself to the new ergonomics as best as possible until the mounts are spaced down.

Though this is a 1/4 mile track they were limiting runs to the 1/8 mile as far as Stats go.

All runs with the exception of number seven were solo test runs, number 7 was a run against guy on a BMW RR S1000 he won & was doing well with the bike, he was aware I was still acclimating to the destroyer and was a gracious with the win & wishing me good luck in getting the Destroyer operation down-pat. Robbie & Gene, if you guys are planning MI-ROCK Series, IIRC him saying he would be visiting the ROCK for those events running in Street ET, maybe you'll meet him this year.

Anyhow, I'm happy to have debugged the shifter issue, the time spent was good.

I still have more to go ,the slick definitely pulls more during the burnout. Because of the time spent debugging the shifter I did not have enough time to get familiar with Hard Launches, also the track was cooling the dew point is around 43 right now and temp is also 43 that's 100%, earlier at the track it was a bit warmer, but still the %%% was high & the track was not feeling good. So I called it a night and loaded up the trailer while a few bikes & car's continued for 30 more minutes.

Looking forward to a warmer climate and better track conditions Friday & Saturday, hoping the scattered T-storms predicted for Sunday scatter else where!! :barf:

PS: The new race suit fit's well, Connie was concerned about where the knee pads were falling when I tried it on Monday, she said to get back with her on how it feels in full gear, boots, ride position on the bike, ETC, if needed she will tweak a few seams in the legs.

These are the detailed time slips from the maiden runs on the Destroyer.
Remember that the RPM's are limited during the first 6 passes 2 at 6k, 2 at 8k and 2 at 10k or less.

Run 7:10 was the air-shifter malfunction, the run was in first gear the whole way at 6k or less,
I found the defective Pingle ignition interrupter was keeping the electric over air solenoid from
discharging after the first shift, spent an hour diagnosing it.

Run 8:18 & 8:42 were repeats of the 6K run (cold tire)

Run 9:06 & 9:37 were at 8k (cold tire)

Run 9:50, 10:01 & 10:27 were run at 9200 RPM shift points, short burn outs to clean & soften the tire. The track was getting cold & damp.

My RT's were very rusty.

We had to repeat Elimination round one due to a lizard in the light tube.

03/06/2011 SE Class (10.90) Eliminations

Again the lizards were getting frisky in the beams, so another hot lap round for me, no PIT action at all!!!!!!

In the second E1 round, Donnie won the race but blew it by staging his street tire inside grove of the lane. I was called to the tower to receive the good news (for me), I get to go to E2.

E2 was a damn good race, we was neck & neck, double breakout Dahms was closer by 2 thousands!!!!

Now I don't feel too bad that my race suit is still being worked on,
they sewed the patch at the wrong spot, now they are making a
custom Leather VROD patch for the right arm where the original was suppose to go, gratis.....

The completed project will be at my door step by EOD Friday 04/29/2011.
T & T Saturday , Points Racing Sunday 5/1.

Next weekend is looking good mid 60's.

Will be getting the rust off with two Qualifying runs, then into eliminations.

New England Dragway will soon be a Member of 1320go.com, we racers raised the funding for the software license and will soon have the funds to upgrade to include the weather station data. Look forward to stat's from the track via the WEB some time in the next month.

Having not been able to race nearly two months, I'm back to square one, not as bad as the first time I took her down the track at Darlington, but still slow by comparison to my peak days at Orlando.

More seat time is needed, if only weather will cooperate. :spank:

I broke out 0.021, my competition was a new ZX14, the rider was green (to the bike) too, though he is a very skilled local racer, this bike will be getting him into the high 8's soon, then low 8's when he juices it, and learns it's nuances.

whats with the 60ft,was there traction problems? the 1st round loss was a loss none the less, but it was a valiant effort. reaction times were about the same and you beat him to the stripe but you didn't get out of the gas soon enough or you whopped the throttle on him 1 time to many. anyway i see you improving with every run :thumb:
