After quite a bit of trouble and with some unfinished business with my dealer and/or Harley, I finally picked up my bike today with a new front wheel. This is the 08 black spoke stock wheel. I have the rear wheel waiting to be installed but need to straighten this out with Harley Tech where I was told that this would be a simple install as long as the 1" bearings were used. My local dealership insisted that they had to custom build (or cut) the axle sleeve because my stock sleeve did not work. They even had a complete wheel installation kit available to them but said the parts still would not work. I'm happy that they were able to get the wheel on, although it cost me an extra hour of labor + $80 in extra parts. I'll see what Harley tech is willing to do, if anything.

Anyhow, wanted to share this with the forum and see if anyone else has a different experience installing these wheels on an earlier V-rod. Sounds like these were designed for the 25mm axle and thus the trouble.

Your stock sleeve is too short, by about .040 to my measurements, so they are not BS'ing you

I did a post on these and went the hard way making my own spacers/sleeves. I asked once somebody bought the spacer kit to post their experience. SO Are you saying you bought the spacer kit and it was not a direct press and go?????

that's what the dealership tells me -- not a simple sway. And per vrod customs, the dealer told me the stock sleeve was in fact about that short for the new wheel. I will call Harley in the next few days to see what they say now.
