I am looking for a back rest for my 07 VROD. I can find them for the 09 pretty easy. What modification if any do I need to do if I bought the 09 back rest?

Yes it is an VRSCDX. so the Back rest has to be for an 09 VRSCDX as well?

Yep, a baseplate for dx year model 2007-11. Not vrscf (muscle).

Yes the baseplate is unique 07-08 D models if I recall. Only years with that tail geometry. (180 width D). My memory is they are very rare

Probably no aftermarket. HD quit making them long ago. eBay and here are you best bets.

They are extremely rare! I spent months looking for one and ended up settling for the wrong part number and modding it.

part number for black is 51220-07 for your bike.

I couldnt find the right one to fit my 08D which is a separate part but I found the one you are looking for for your bike on ebay for $265 after months of searching. I had to drill new holes in the baseplate to get it to fit and it still doesnt follow the curves of my fender correctly. But it is almost unnoticeable.

All I can say is check ebay daily and be ready to pay dearly. The closest and only aftermarket option is this:
