After reading several threads and hearing alot of stories on the news and reading them in the papers regarding fallen riders I've considering changing from my non DOT half helmet (brain bucket) to a full face DOT Helmet. I'm in NY where helmets are a must, but slap on a DOT sticker on a novelty helmet and your set. But is it truly worth it? So what do you use???

Caberg Justissimo Modular Helmet with the inside sun shield.

Simpson Super Bandit full face.

i just purchased this one yesterday...was wearing a half dot approved helmet...thought i would try a full face for the winter..

I have an Arai Profile. It's the only brand of helmet that's ever correctly fit my noggin. Not a bad space for shameless advertisement either! :)

usually none, but I'm looking at an Icon Full Face...I may not begetting any better but, I think, I may be getting a little smarter....go go goggles!

i own the HJC Reign half helmet, and i just purchased the HJC AC 12 Carbon fiber for the cool weather (AKA FXRG), i'm putting the mirror shield on it as soon as it comes in.

Not enough choices, I wear half, carbon fiber semi novelty and full face at different times. Depends on weather, how I plan to ride and how long the ride is.

Right now in the Northeast with the weather cooling down the only choice is full face or you get an ice cream headache. In the summer no helment is the choice on a short low speed ride, but at highway speeds the fullface is a must.

Here in rural Pa, the bugs have a field day with your face. :banghead:
I wear a Arai full face just so I don't look like Jim Carey when he
played the Motorcycle Cop in Rhode Island. :moped:

As for short trips when you are tempted to wear a half/open or
novelty helmet, statistics prove that is the time you are most likely
to hit the dirt.

Ask me how I know. :angeldev:

Shoei X-Eleven.

I have always worn full-face helmets, regardless of weather. Some of the more expensive helmets are lighter, more aerodynamic, and more comfortable with great air flow. Brand isn't nearly as important as good fit, so go try them all on, until you find one that fits you right. A decent dealer should be able to tell you how to properly fit a helmet, but if not, then the ARAI website has a good section on fitting a helmet. I'm sure there are other sources, but that is one I am familiar with. Notice I wear a Shoei, not an ARAI, because they don't fit my melon.

Helmet

I much prefer my full face HJC helmet. I would wear my DOT half helmet at speeds under 40 mph....but beyond that I feel very unprotected with the half helmet. Full face helmets are really the "only" option.
