After a few months of searching, this 06 VRSCR is mine. Well, when the DMV says so, it is. Here's what I've got over the last few days and what I'm doing. Open to input!
Returned from emergency room after repeated heart attacks with the side stand 'rolling forward.' I mean, how do you not panic every time that thing rolls forward? One time it DID roll forward since it hadn't latched. Not sure I'll ever get used to that.
Front brake master cylinder was binding up. I shot silicone in the handle. Banged on it, And it broke. Took the pin out and found the connecting rod was, um, sideways. Put a dab of marine wheel bearing grease on the tip in put it back together and wow. It's an amazing front brake now.
Steering creaked, so I tightened anything with threads, and eventually found the bolts under the handlebar clamps were loose. Problem solved.
Just tightened the steering tube play. Hope I didn't over tighten it, but no more clunking and it doesn't seem to wander. By the way, relieving some of the weight by jacking up the frame with a floor jack? Yeah, it cause the bike to roll forward on the kick stand. Caught it in time. ER doctor and I are first-name basis now.
Took the wife for a ride. She's 5' 9" and not a complainer, but I think her knees were higher than my helmet.
Q. Best /most common way to lower those passenger pegs? I have a little room above the pipe.
Speaking of passengers, it seems the wisdom of this forum says the most comfortable passenger seat is the Sundowner and I need to monitor eBay for one to pop up some day. I have:
I filled the tank with 92 octane. But 'filled' is an interesting idea when the bike is leaning on the stand. So I got maybe four gallons in there. The gauge immediately went to zero and the fuel light came on once it was full. That's what the light is for, right? "You have fuel!" OK, seriously, I know it's a thing on these that the sending unit has problems with a full tank. But you know what? So do I. And I'm from the era where.. "Gauges? we don't need no stinking gauges."
The silencer is of unknown brand or origin, but it sounds fine. Mild backfiring on deceleration, and that's ok.
Noticed odor of burning oil, but learned from this forum that that's normal into the 5K miles range. Mine has just under 6K and my guess is the past two owners weren't aggressive riders. So, I'll ride it hard, and it'll break-in seal up well.
Rear brake doesn't trigger the brake light. I've read that they can leak, so maybe that's next on the list to do.
And now, for the best part. 7-8K rpm? Would have never guessed what a V-twin can do in that range. Wow. Takes me back to my old Fireblade in second gear. Everything blurs like the jump to hyperspace. I like it!
Oh I have a HD windshield. May put it on for longer tours.
And beyond the Corbin seat combo, it came with a complete set of factory 'yellow' sheet metal/plastic which must have been original on this.
I've only been able to do little tours of 10 miles or so. Longer rides to be done this weekend.

- Stock seat and
- Corbin seat with storage bin combination. The Corbin looks fantastic, but that shiny black locking storage bin isn't too comfortable for two up.
