Warning: The V-Rod takes corners like no other bike I've ridden, which is both good and bad. If you're used to traditional cruisers, you'll find the V-Rod to be very different. It tends to want to fall inside taking corners...
Agreed. The rake and relatively hokey suspension make a difference.

Get the Progressive fork springs, heavy duty HD fluid, and progressive shocks. Everyone who's used them has been amazed at the difference. Having ridden Italian bikes before, I actually felt comfortable on curves on the VR for the first time after these mods.

Also new tires. I was pleased at the change Metzlers made.

Where would I get the Progressive fork springs and progressive shocks? Does HD make these/are these HD parts?

Also, do these changes make any difference in addition to taking curves...does the ride feel different on the highway, stop and/or go off the line any differently, etc.

Thanks!

Check out v-mod.com, you'll find a progressive suspension kit there that lowers your bike by 1". If you want the stock height shocks, you could contact Progressive directly. These are high quality parts, but not HD, so check with your dealer if you're concerned about keeping your warranty valid. It is a very good suspension setup. Some dealers will be fine with it and have no problem honoring your warranty, others will want to install the parts themselves. You will feel a major difference in the ride quality, plus with the progressive 440 shocks you can adjust the stiffness by hand.

First thing is probably going to be the seat. Though I won't regularly have a passenger as of now, I will want them to be comfortable and me too. I've been reading good things about the sundowner seat.
Yeah- the stock seat sucks.
The Sundowner is soft and comfy and a bit wider. I've got that for longer hauls and passengers. But for day to day, I like the WilleG. It's firm, low and provides great lower back support. Then- there are myriad of aftermarket non-Harley choices.

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone...here's a pic from the pick-up :D

I did order the sundowner seat with sissy bar and pad for the passenger while I was there too :)

Great investment.... and the bike as well.

Also get rid of the dogs arse, ASAP. Do a search about it.

Thanks diomedes...very helpful!

Welcome

You will certainly enjoy your new bike and probably begin to want to "personalize" it. Take you time and imagine the overall idea instead of just adding grips, mirrors, shifters, etc..I've noticed alot more radical paint jobs out there recently that give the VRod a whole new look and style just look around. Check out this site to see one way the bike can go: http://www.violator-motorcycles.com/,
Since I have the Silver 03 anniversary edition I choose to keep my bike fairly stock, most of the upgrades are simply switching everything to Harley chome, it has the SuperTrap 2/1 pipe on it that gives it the sound and feel I like best, and the front wheel has been changed to a Gatlin spoked type, not what you'd think of as radical, except the ride,...hitting 70 MPH in 2nd gear on a take off does it for me. enjoy and be careful you now own a missle with handlebars:angelwin: :stilpoke:

Welcome to the HD family. It is quite an experience that I am getting used to also. Just recently purchased a 100 anniv. VRSCA after owning a Triumph Sprint ST. You have to get used to all the looks you will get on this bike and people asking you questions. Sundowner seat is a great add. The only things I am adjusting to is the short range of the gas tank and not shifting as much as I used to. Life is good!

OT, I'm surprised to see there are more threads in all the other specific model forums (exception of destroyer) than there are in the VRSCA...Guess I'm just surprised more people like the street and night rods, I didn't like the cramped feeling off the mid-mounts.
Not to dig up the past, but I just noticed in my VRSC Models Owner's Manual that almost all of the figures shown are for VRSCR models. If it doesn't say VRSCR is says VRSC, and I think I saw only one that was a D model. THought this strange. Guessing the R is outselling the A and D as it is cheaper and all.

Greetings!!

Welcome to the family!!

I do not have statistics to back me up here, but I think that there are a lot more "A" model drivers out there than others (read: 4 year head start!)

I roll a "D" model myself, but I think of all in the VRSC family as V-RODS!!
You're in the right place for all of the imformation/inspiration that you can possibly absorb!

ENJOY THAT BIKE!!!!:thumb:

Very Nice, Let me know how it rides as I am planning to get one, hopefully in the near future
Well, I've only got a little over 300 miles on it, but it rides awesome. I can't compare, as this is my first bike, but I'm enjoying it. First 100+ mile ride with little breaks found the stock seat to be alittle uncomfortable, but I already ordered the sundowner and hear great things about it on here at the site. Browse the site and you'll see all the pro's and con's from the people here.

300 miles in 1 & 3/4 months? You need to find a different Job!!!! :stilpoke:

Crafty, You said this is your first bike. How do you feel about the Vrod as a first bike. I've heard some who believe it handles a little tougher than some.

this being the first bike i've owned, i found the handling to be a little rough at first, but am getting used to it. It's really hard to compare as it is my first bike. I've ridden friend's bikes a few times before and the handling on those weren't as hard to get accustomed to as the V, but I wouldn't trade it for any other bike at the moment.
