I also test rode the XDiavel coming from the VRSCA 2002.
I thought the XDiavel improves on the VROD and definitely betters it in turns and lean. I'm 6' with inseam of 30" according to jeans size. I too thought the seat at 29" was too high but when I got on it, my feet were flat on the ground with a bend in the knees and felt safe. It didn't feel tipsy either. My back didn't have an issue after riding it for an hour and I wanted to go for more (this is the single most important point for me). That familiar feel of rush at 4500 rpm also exists on the XD and more. Another rush comes in at 7000 rpm but I'm going through breakin period.
I'm neither pro HD or Ducati, just like what feels right. The XDiavel is an improvement where my 2002 ends. Perhaps the F comparison is different but ergo wise my back won't have it with the F. I traded my 2002 for the XD. Its a great ride.
Me too, @CAAD10. My 2nd V-rod, an 04 (02 got stolen) just went to the Ducati dealership last Friday. LOVE that XD S. 650 miles in 3 days, and I can wheelie like a pro now! lol.
To the point of "expense". If you are happy with a stock or Stage 1 V-rod, God bless you. I completely understand. I was for a LONG time. But if you plan on spending thousands to try to get another 15 or 20hp, the XD starts looking VERY inexpensive.
You can argue Chevy vs. Ford vs. GM all day. But a Ducati, is, a Ducati. And thanks to them moving the torque curve lower in the RPM range to satisfy "cruiser lovers", the XDiavel is THE fastest launching production bike Ducati has ever made. Make sure you point it straight down the road first, when you come to a light. Done right, the front tire is pretty useless for the first hundred feet.
