I modified a Harbor Freight dolly to accomodate the wide 240 tire. The only offerings for a bike like ours would either only accomodate a 200 series tire (and they call it a chopper dolly!!) for $129 through discountramps.com, which,BTW, is just a longer Harbor Freight dolly, or the BikersPal dolly from Canada at $700 (US dollars) plus $45 shipping, which will accommodate a 240 tire. I had to purchase 2 Harbor Freight dollies at $70 each. I had one section cut down the center and a 4 inch piece of 1/8 in steel welded in. I had that reinforced underneath across the now 12 inch span in 3 places with 1/4 inch steel. I cut a 20 inch long piece of one section that included the welded-in caster mounts to give both extra length and now additional casters in the middle section for more support. I also had to make a longer rod for the leverage wedge lift at the end of the now 12 inch wide section(since it was originally designed to be for an 8 inch dolly). The total length is now approx 96 inches with 94 inches of usable length. I spent a total of $340, $140 for the dollies and $200 for the welding/materials. If I had done the welding in one trip I could have saved $50 more. I have seen one on this forum made using wood with a Harbor Freight wheel dock, but I prefer the lifts at the end of this unit to keep the unit from tipping and from rolling when loading and unloading. Also, I already owned one Harbor Freight dolly purchased years ago, so I only had to lay out $270.

LOL you are so right. I just finished this thing Saturday. It is ugly though. Our bikes do deserve better. I'll paint it this weekend. You have shamed me into it. Actually my son emphasized the ugliness to me yesterday. You can always count on the kids for that.

Looks good. Was this your inspiration?
:hidesbeh:

if had enough room in the garage to allow for the leaning, i would have gone your route.

Yes. I have been using the Harbor Freight dolly several years for numerous bikes, but none with a tire this sexy! Fat and Phat!!I had a Northern tools dolly years before with cheap casters that didn't really allow for locking the wheels and also had no ramp and nothing at the end to keep it from tipping( the last set of wheels were 6 inches from the end. I made a block/ramp that slipped under the rear edge of the dolly but had to strap the front to the wall stud when removing the bike, and put the front up against the wall when putting the bike on the dolly . I remember how you described your method of removal. You are a better man than I. Too risky for me!! I really like your dolly better, I just couldn't figure out a good braking system for the dolly. I didn't want to go around locking and unlocking casters. I roll the bike on and off three times a week.

Looking in the November Motorcyclist magazine and there's a super coupon for this dolly....sale price $59.99 limit 5 per customer, good thru 1/24/14.

Wow, for that much money you could have just converted to a 180 tire :stilpoke:
The HillBilly Dolly negotiation was a trade off for brand new VRod Vinyl sticker & VRod patch. and a 4 pack of full mason jars...
