Has anyone here had their stock seat modified with gel and or memory foam? If so, by who?

I am planning a 650 mile ride (one way) in October and I would like to have the bottom part of my seat not hurt my ass.

I would like a bitchin but I think 900 bucks for a seat is way too much. And the Corbin looks like my grandmas couch. Sure that's a bad reason not to buy it because it's for comfort but I just can't do that. Plus having my seat modified will likely give me what I need and look better.

Unless someone else makes a seat that I can't find?

Had my seat done. Only thing I would do different is have the rider seat cut down about a half inch. Joe wraps the seat in memory foam after the gel insert. This raises the height of the seat a bit. I also had the upright replaced with memory foam. Much more comfortable on my lower back. Joe will recover the seat it you send him a new cover.

Here's an older post that might help you out. http://www.1130cc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=163462&highlight=american+soft+seat

I have had one by american soft seats, one by mean city cycles, and one by russell day long. All were much better than stock, but, while a bit ugly, the day long is the king of comfort. 900 bucks is CHEAP - after 4 12 hour days, I would have paid twice that! Pain sux. Joe

Not a a stock seat, but I'm road tripping with a custom made Bitchen' seat with nitro gel in the rider and pillion area.

I had to have Rich custom make the seat based on his Wifebeater to bring my seating position forward in order to take pressure off of my fused spine and put gel padding in the pillion area.

Expensive doesn't begin to cover it (basically, double the cost of a Wifebeater), but WORTH. EVERY. SINGLE. DAMN. PENNY. The seat combined with Budman's riser and the best Frelling footpegs ever have transformed the bike. Not an ache or an owie ANYWHERE despite repeated six hour days in the saddle.

Rich's seats are THAT good. And the look fantastic and completely change the look of the bike!

But, did I mention spendy? This is a rare case of getting what you pay for.

PS; My Wife has gone through five seats on her Nightster-- stock, stock modified by Mean City Cycles, a Dorty Eight seat, gel modified Forty Eight seat and finally a one-off solo custom made by Rich-- his seat saved my marriage. Multiple six hour rides on a Nightster (basically a Sporty Low with the same suspension compromises) and she LOVES her seat. I mean loves, loves, LOVES it.

My seat looks the same. They cut out a bit so the gel takes up the missing space. The wife likes it a lot better than stock, we took a 5 day trip last summer and 4 days of good riding in sturgis without complaints.

"Where did you get your frelling footpegs?"

Roland Sands Design Moto footpeg. You want the 45 degree version. Come black anodized or chrome.

Here's a link, but you can get them at various places if you search a bit: http://www.rolandsands.com/products/Moto-Foot-Pegs-45-Degree-black-anodize

Best damn peg I've ever used. Grips like a mother. No more sliding off at inopportune moments.

Not until it has a bath!

Just finished a 1350 mile road trip last night. There was a LOT of rain on one of the days; the bike is more grey than black right now.

I'm going to go pull the bags, pegs and shield off of it today and convert it back to "cruiser" mode. Then give it and my wife's bike a bath. I'll snap a few pics after that.

Not to hijack the OP, but the bags are ok once you take them on and off a few times. You have to get four bolts welded and replace the allen cap bolts with hex bolts. It also helps if you jack the rear to get the bags to slide in properly and then get a wrench to the bolts. I figure I can put on the bags, install the passenger pegs (I normally have pegs on an AW bracket, which has to be removed to put the bags on) and put on the windshield in about an hour, give or take.

Mileage was 39-41 MPG, regardless of how I rode the bike. Highway, city, flogging it, hammering it, with loaded bags or with wife. Nothing made a difference in mileage.
