Steve,

Sorry to hear about your son's diabetes. I know how you are feeling and we share this in common. Both my sons are Type 1. One was diagnosed at 11 and the other at 17. Both handled it well and excepted it better than my wife and I did. They have managed it well as could be expected and are now in their early 30's. They are both on the pump for the last couple of years and like it. If your son would like some additional support besides mom and dad, let me know, my sons would be glad to meet up with him downtown Plymouth. They hang out there a lot.

Don
Don, thanks! We might just take you up on that offer!

Steve,

Both my sons are still very active in sports. At their age they are still playing hockey in the winter and play in a Detroit Area Mens Fast Pitch Baseball League in the summer. They have careers and families and obviously don't train like your son but I can assure you your son will find his grove. For now, you are on the right track with counting carbs and figuring what works for him. Trial and error in the beginning and then will smooth out to a routine. He is not going to miss out on anything as long as he excepts it and learns to manage it himself.

Don,

Thanks. You are right, he will be able to do 99% of the activities non diabetics can do. Saddly for us, he has had one dream for many years now: attend the US Coast Guard Accademy and fly helicopters. And that is in the 1% of oppotunities that now appears to be closed to him. :-( Millitary accademies (and the military) don't accept type 1 dabetics.

Ok, let's break the tension around here... Who's ready to ride!?! Here's hoping that Easter and Spring Break deliver some good riding conditions!

What tension? You mean the FRUSTRATION FROM THE FROZEN WHITE SHIT STILL ON MY LAWN AND ICY PATCHES ON THESE BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY ROADS AROUND MY HOUSE??? WTF WHO'S TENSE??? ME??? :angeldev: :D

I've been on my bike twice already.

Yes it was in the garage.

Yes it was on the lift.

That's more seat time than most of you have gotten in this winter. :hidesbeh:
What part of Michigan do you people live in??? :D

Note to self: Ask Susan to get video of Kelly on bike/lift making "vroom-vroom" noises! :moon:

Accidental double post... nothing to see here...

At least my bike goes "vroom-vroom" yours on the hand goes "potatooo - potatooo" You need an exhaust upgrade!
If by upgrade, you mean installing an exhaust that is louder, but robs HP, drags through turns, and tends to eject expensive cones at inopportune times.... I'll pass. :stilpoke: :stooge:

What the heck has happened here? A one time this thread was the one that everyone wanted to be associated with. Now days it's like a ghost town. We should change the welcome page to say "Oh hey welcome to the Detroit registry, don't bother posting cause no ones going to read it or post a reply. Just go away. :angeldev:

Heck Kelly, we been at this about 10 yrs now. I think some had life changes and others are into that FaceSpaceBook thing. Forums of any sort are a dying phenomenon.

Speaking for myself, I had a rough go of things for a bit when the auto industry tanked....since my livelihood is tied to it. Things are a whole lot better now than they were but had to sell my beloved 2003 VRSCA as I had no idea what the future held...and by default, just didn't want to think about V-Rod's because I did not want to part with that bike....and still miss it actually. FFWD a couple years and now ride a 2008 VRSCDX (which is like a new girlfriend that could never replace the old one) and I live across the state out here by Lansing....even farther from the "D", working midnights, and with young kids in the nest, I can't make too many of the rides/get togethers because I live the vampire lifestyle. I still poke in though. The forum overall has really changed a lot...and not for the better. To be honest, I feel like I am picking at the bones on here as I look for specific things, maybe help where I can. This thread really contains the people I care to keep in touch with, aside a few others. This year I should be able to make some things planned later in the day though. You're not far from me either, with LOTS of really kick ass country roads in between. ;) Do you still have my number??? TWO4EIGHT TWO5TWO SIX4TWO1.

Hasn't been the same since Gary lost his ride ...:banghead:
...and that. I think he had a bear share of the post count in this thread.

Where's Jonny been and how is he these days??? Last I hear he was selling his bike and playing Captain Morgan on the High Seas surrounding Detroit. :angeldev:
