Hey Guys. I'm originally from CA. I escaped about 8 years ago for the Midwest and have since backtracked to New Mexico. I'm a long-time rider and just clocked 50 years old. I sold my '08 Honda CBR1000RR last week, as it was just getting too uncomfortable to ride. I currently have an '04 FXDL Dyna Lowrider and a turbocharged '98 FLTRI Road Glide. A friend in CA is wanting to buy my Dyna and I'm about 99% sure I'll be selling it to him within the next month. I was down at Trask in Phoenix a few days ago having the FLTRI Dyno-tuned and saw one of their turbo kits on a V-Rod. And so it began... Now I pretty well NEED one to hang a turbo kit onto. Now with the questions...

I've pretty well figured out the model designations by studying this site. Prices for the older models seem to be VERY reasonable. Adding a 5-gallon tank to the pre-'07's doesn't seem like a big deal. I couldn't care less about the ABS or security systems. If a bike has them, great. If not, oh well. I can paint so I don't even care about color. So the two big issues remaining are the 1130cc Vs. 1250cc engines and the 240 rear tire Vs. the 180.

So question #1: From what I can gather, the 240-bikes have a narrower drive belt. I'm wondering if they're up to the task of handling turbo-power?

And Question #2: What's the HP/Torque differences between the 1130 and the 1250?

Any other incremental year-model changes that I should be aware of? Any bikes to steer clear of??

Thanks for any help there.

Tom

And Question #2: What's the HP/Torque differences between the 1130 and the 1250?
Negligible difference in HP/Torque in their stock forms.
1250cc = 123hp 85ft lbs @7k
1130cc = 115hp 74ft lbs @ 7k

Brembo brakes were introduced in '06 and they changed from DOT 5 to DOT 4 fluid

:welcome:

You won't go wrong with either a 1130 or a 1250. A 240 can be easily retrofitted to an older bike, and yes, you can install a 5 gallon tank (I recommend Rick's).

The new smaller belt is allegedly as strong (if not stronger) than the older wide belt. I have an 04 with a turbo and a 240 with the wide belt, and I've broken one at the drag strip, but that may have been a fluke. (more like my personal bad luck... lol)

Ya gotta love a Trask! Go for it!

Hey Ed. We'll have to get together once I get a 'rod. Hopefully in the next few days I'm heading to SoCal to pick one up. And if all goes well, I may be heading to MO in the not too distant future to get another. Depends on how the deals work out.
