looking to convert a 02 stock wheel bike to a 06 se wheel setup w/brembos. the 06 has a 240 rear tire which may be a wider rim, not sure? does anyone have experience in doing this or know if it is possible and what modifications are required. any and all help appreciated! SW.

The wheels will bolt right on. You will need to make a bushing for the rear caliper because the '06 uses a 1" axle and the '02 uses a 3/4" axle. Also you will need to notch the rear caliper support tab on the swingarm (copy from the '06 swingarm). Then you will need to rebuild the brembo calipers so you can run the DOT 5 brake fluid that your '02 uses since the '06 uses DOT 4 and they are not compatible.

Bproul, If he buys a new 1" rear axle, would that be easier than having a bushing made? I know the 1" axle will fit with the reactor wheel. On the calipers. I have read that some are using DOT 5 right from the start. Would the rebuild for the calipers be needed if uses brand new calipers or only if they were previously used with the DOT 4 ??

Nope the 1" axle will not fit through the swing arm on the brake side. I have a bushing on my bike and have never had an issue in 10K+ miles with the bushing. The rebuild is only required if the calipers are used. IMHO it would be easier to swap his rotors onto the reactor wheels and use his calipers, though he won't get the improved braking of the Brembos.
