Ok, I've read a ton of stuff (here) on these and listened to them over and over and...I must have 'em. Sorry all...but a couple of questions:

1) Do you recommend a setup (stealth baffles or torque chamber or hi-flow air filter or semi-topless or all, etc.) to minimize the HP loss?

2) Any "gotchas" on putting these in a '04 VRSCA? Any tips on installation?

3) Gil's tele number still the same for Gil's box and can Gil's box cover semi-topless w/hi flow air filter and the Jugs?

Thanks! :)

I have them and they are louder than you will want out of the box, I put the stealth baffles in, If you want the stealths you might have to get them directly from BUB because the p/n on the web is wrong. with the stealths they are still loud they are -6 to 8 db than out of the box. I tried to run them with a power tuner 3 and I had a lot of HP but it didn't run right at a constant rpm and guzzled the fuel so I put a terry components fueler on it and it runs perfect. easy to install I run it semi-topless with high flow hd filter. I have noticed some power loss but it is still fast and sounds and looks great. BUB has excellent customer service as well.:D

Great info and thanks!

A very good tune can minimize this. When I ran them, I tuned with a DaytonaTwintec Twinscan88+....but no matter what you do, without backpressure, the V-Rod is gonna lose power like mad in the higher rpm's. This motor is really sensitive to backpressure.

I've been interested in this exhaust too. I think it looks really cool. I have force shorties staggered now and I like them ok. What would the sound difference be between my exhaust now and the BUBs? Would it sound more like an air cooled?

I have run them for two years now and love them. Sometimes the people I ride with don't. At least when they are on my right and I roll on the throttle. I run mine with a Power comander PC III and a K&N air filter. Great sound, great performance. I don't take my bike to the track and never had it on a dyno, but it beats the crap out of anyone I ride with.

Do you know how they compare in sound to Force?
Better if you want a more traditional air cooled sound. The V-Rod can never sound like an air cooled Harley because of the design differences, but these will put you as close as you can get. The Jugs are deeper and about the same volume wise without the tad bit of raspiness the Force have.

In a nutshell, if you can live with the few lost ponies they are very nice pipes. I miss the looks and sound very much at times...untill I hit the throttle :angeldev: They sound best cruising at about 3500 rpm.

If you aren't happy with the sound of the Jug Huggers, you should have bought a Honda! :stilpoke: :angeldev: :D Seriously though, they sound the BEST of any of the 6 pipes I have ran on my bike.

PS

If you need a good map for the Race Tuner, I posted a really good one in the EFI room tuned with a Twinscan88+.

most of my riding buddies still have hearing damage in their left ear! :angeldev:

Perfect....that's exactly what I wanted to know. Why did you take them off? HP loss?

Yes, hp in the sense of "seat of the pants feel" horsepower, not the numbers on paper that many nit-pick or get all thermo-nuclear-obsessive-compulsive over. It only matters to me if it feels faster since each dyno is so different...and is also why I like street tuning with the Twinscan88+. Street tuning yourself is better because you can tune to how and where you ride on real street conditions. Dynos are very cool too, but IMHO, I don't see tossing out that kind of money when I can get a product like the Twinscan88+ for near the price of one dyno session. Besides that, many tuners only tune wide open throttle because it is faster and easier to do. That won't do you any good at cruise or anywhere other than full tilt.

Here's some links to what I was talking about. I have the Twinscan88+, which is the older version of the TwinscanII+. With mine, I can only tune one cylinder at a time. The new one has two 02 sensors and WEGO's for simultaneous tuning of both cylinders.

Twin Scan II+ Tuning Aid for Screamin Eagle® Race Tuner (SERT) and Dynojet Power Commander (Bottom of page)

The software makes it really easy to tune the bike. Really is a great product.
