The C109 is superior in every aspect & will run circles around the V-Rod. Show me ONE C109 that leaks oil & I'll fry it & eat it! How many hundreds if not thousands of V-Rod owners have had oil leaks & countless other problems? Suzuki has always had the best gear box in the business. The C109 next to the V-Rod is ugly but put that motor & Japanese quality in a V-Rod.:stilpoke:
Ok so im new here but i couldn't resist this. How is it that someone would make a statement like this and the whole time not even have the name of the bike correct? Im pretty sure it is a M 109:chair: .

The M109 is Suzuki's muscle bike and the C109 is their cruiser, same engine just different styles.

Suzuki makes the M109 and the C109. Two different bikes...(www.suzuki.com)

No replacement for displacement

i hate to agree, but i have lived by this throey my whole life... but they HAD to do the displacement on the m109 to keep up with the vrod... typically your bigger displacement it put into place to compensate for better technology
Maybe but, always the but, I'm willing to bet there are very few v-rod owners here who wouldn't like more displacement; suddenly you would have torque and horsepower.

At this point in time, only my opinion of course, the DX has got to be the king of cool ~ there just really isn't another scooter that competes but it would even be cooler with a 1450 cc engine, just imagine the increased torque, and a 6th speed.

Generally ~ there is no replacement for displacement
Boy, that's an antique adage for sure, true in the old days but not anymore. The 1130cc is a relatively small displacement, the 4 valves per, 4 overhead cams, short "square" stroke, downdraft intake, EFI, ect, are the "replacement". 120hp from a stock 1130 "V" is quite an example.
If that ain't enough for ya, you can bolt on a lot more HP overnight with a turbo, generally 50%. 160 - 180 Hp - STOCK.
The displacement thing will always be around but with today's technology it's old school. Hell, even Chevy went with a smaller displacement on the new ZR1, they went with a blower on a smaller engine, less compression and produced the fastest Vette ever -600 lovely ponies. No need for big displacement, hairy cams or big pistons. 600 HP and very "streetable".

Aye, there are more viable alternatives these days but ~ all you have to do is read through these threads and ~ a lot of people are still going bigger.

I have no problem with it at all, I just laugh at some of the competition. 2300cc, 1800cc and so on (which was my original point). Yet they can't or barely compete with the Revolution. When and if my motor ever gets split I will surely consider upgrades as well. The great part is having such an awesome platform and technology to start with.

True sometimes, but kind of embarrassing that a current GSXR-600 will absolutely destroy a M109 or C109 in the 1/4 mile.

109 cubic inches gets smoked by, what, 40 cubic inches?

a 1450 and a 6th gear hell better strap on you be 180 on top end and gas mileage would suck.... now look at the porsche (whom I might remind you helped design the V-Rod) competes with far larger engines and seems to be right there with performance. They seem to have figured out there is a cure for more displacement...

We have plenty of 109's coming in for warranty, PS my rod gets ridden hard and does not use nor drop oil. if you like the M109 so much have you bought one?

well i have bin on the 1/4 mile and raced with M109 and and he still haven't beat me on my original VRSCD both bikes are stock and i am not planing to let that happen in the nearer future plus it looks like a tank next to the V-rod i would trade my D for any of the HD lookalikes

Harley VRSCDX over a.....wot was the other bike?

Jackalope said:
I'm kinda scared to post this. As a noob, you guys may flame hell out of me for even bringing it up.

But I have to ask, other than the Harley name, mystique and brotherhood that goes with it (and VRSC owners are kinda the black sheep there anyway), what's the real advantage of a VRSC over a Suzuki M109? They even now offer the C109 for the bagger set. They run with the VRSC and they cost less.

So why go Harley?
A Harley VRSCDX is much more rare than a Suzuki, and Yes more expensive.
which is why it is more exclusive.
I'm sure the Suzuki is an OK bike, but who wants to ride OK when you could ride a V-Rod !

Oh, and those two pictures.... Whoever owns that 08 DX...... so cool
